Thread: What is your monthly bandwidth usage?

1. #1

Default What is your monthly bandwidth usage?

So, after all the debate of if anyone needs more than the 60GB/month as provided by Shaw/Bell, here is my bandwidth usage.

I currently subscribe to Teksavvy that, with the basic 5M profile, includes 200GB/month bandwidth (up and down)

Also: My internet was connected on the at 2:00pm on the 17th, so these are more for half a month.

Uploaded: 29.65GB
Downloaded: 24.66GB
Hours Online: 282
Total Usage: 54.31GB

So, as you can see, 60GB/month IS NOT ENOUGH bandwidth for my lifestyle. Was all of it legal? Maybe, Maybe not

$29.95/month for a 5M/800K profile
Since I'm on Dryloop DSL I also have to pay a $9.10/month bandrate

Best part about the company: They do not use automated phone systems, the second you dial the number you get a Canadian on the other end (I think from London ON if I'm not mistaking)

I have used up to 40-60GB a month, but that's the busiest I get. That service looks very consumer friendly, I hate automated customer service.

That is odd.
29-17 = 12
12*24 = 288 hours
So you basically are using your service 97.916% of the time.

One can ask if that qualifies as a business connection instead of a residential connection.

Not exactly, since most DSL is treated as an always-on connection, that is actually time that my DSL modem is connected to the service and I am "online" (IE I am logged in using my username/pass). Since I use my router to handle the PPPOE duties of logging into my connection, it is always active although I am not always using it.

Actually, they are based in Chatham, ON, not London

Glad to see more and more people switching to cheaper DSL than Bell. Same connection and speed, better customer service, and lower monthly bills.

I'm very happy with Teksavvy right now, only problem is I'm topping out @ around 350-400k/sec, so it is a little slow. Right now I'm using an older modem (not a recommended model), and I think it's the lines in the building I'm in

Does your modem give you any line stats? Depending on what the stats are like, you may be able to get a profile boost.

I'm doing about 180gigs a month. I'm on teksavvy and i've loved it since switching over from shaw in my area.

I honestly haven't looked into the problem too much. Maybe someday I'll play around more. The first step will be connecting my computer directly to the modem and testing, then maybe I'll get a new modem.

The modem I'm using is one that I got from Bell when I first signed up for DSL over 6 years ago (Speedstream 5200 I think)

Try these guys. http://www.caneris.com/DSLAddons?t=P
2Wire2700HG ADSL2+ modem, 4 port Router, Hyper-G Wireless Access Point, Firewall capability.
Refurbished but with a 6 month warranty.
$25 + $10 shipping
*they will sell to anyone. you don't have to be a customer

I usually download about 100GB/month. Sometimes more.
I would assume it's all legal because I don't share or upload any of it. All for personal use.
I'll stick with Teksavvy. I also have their Home Phone Service.
And yes. You do really get an English(or French. Your choice)speaking person on the phone from Chatham ON.
