Mr. Sulu of 'Star Trek' to wed manager Brad Altman

Updated Tue. May. 20 2008 12:47 PM ET

    The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- Star Trek's Mr. Sulu says he will wed his longtime partner and business manager, Brad Altman, now that the California Supreme Court has legalized same-sex marriage.

Actor George Takei, the original Mr. Sulu on the TV show, says on his website that he and Altman have shared their lives for more than 21 years and are "overjoyed" to be able to legally marry.

The 71-year-old Takei writes: "No more 'separate but equal.' No more second-class citizenship ... Brad and I are going to be married as full citizens of our state."

Takei, who also had a recurring role on NBC's "Heroes" last year, says he and Altman are planning the details of their wedding.

What does it matter anyway? I've known that guy was gay forever!

I was under the impression it was not possible to be in the space program under those conditions.

    You guys are hilarious...

Check out Howard Stern sometime. He is openly gay on the show.
They often mock him about it...but he can't reply cause he usually has something stuck in his mouth.

The best line I have read in a long time.. "He can fly a starship...can you?" That's friggen hilarious!!

This is all because of Episode #7 The Naked Time

Premise: The Enterprise crew is infected with a disease that makes them drunk.

Review notes: The first of "mysterious illness" episodes. Maybe years later we can see what Star Trek was trying to tell us. "The Naked Time" told us of a highly contagious, deadly disease which releases our inhibitions. Is it a warning today of our inhibitions that lead to highly contagious, deadly diseases? Though mankind will go far into the galaxy, it takes a step backwards in handling contaminations.

What to look for: Sulu's over-the-top performance as a swashbuckler.

Trivial: After the Enterprise accidentally figures a way to go back in time, Kirk makes a prophetic statement about doing so again. Scotty, who has the highest alcohol tolerance of the entire crew, is unaffected by the virus.

A drunk Sulu goes ape wild. This is why after this episode no one invites him to go drinking.
