Kinda sad that the only suggestions have been Rivera, and Bogner. Must be something out there that can outperform a solid state Crate.

I won't buy line6, checked out the line6/bogner amps, didnt like em, they still have that terrible digital circuitry in it. Don't want a pricey tube amp pushing a cruddy signal. 50 artist presets I'll never use, 50 cabinet models i'll never use, how about a decent 2 channel AMP!

Anyone try the 3/5watt Blackheart amp, hear nothing but praise, then again its all internet reviews.

There are all kinds of youtube demos out there. the trick is to find one where they are just going straight in without effects.

This one is not too bad. It gives you an idea I guess but you would still actually have to be there.

Must be something that out performs a solid state Crate? ... you just named two.

It's not sad ... it's about what you want and your preference, if you think that Crate is the be all end all for the sound you want then go with another Crate, it definitely won't hurt your back pocket as much as the more boutique style amps talked about. You keep mentioning your Crate, stick with the brand if it's so golden (to you).

As for the Blackheart, never really heard of it but from what I'm reading it's more of a crunch tone (AC/DC style), not a lot of gain and not what you would want from the sounds of it. At $179.00 can you really expect much? I'd have to chuckle and say no.

So what do you want to spend? You ok to spend the $2300+ for a head from Rivera, ENGL, VHT, Bogner or something else elite or you looking to get away cheap? Apples and oranges with the price ranges and I don't know but, if you go from talking about being interested in a $2300 piece of art to considering a less than $200 piece of ... well, you know, it's hard to get a feel for what you really want. (Other than another Crate)

Haven't dialed the volume above 3 and it's earshattering.

Thanks for recommending Rivera, I would have never given the company a glance before.
