Default Christ the Lord

Has anybody read Anne Rice's second book in her "Christ the Lord" series...The Road to Cana? I just finished it and, like the first one, I found it fascinating.

Her descriptions of the settings and the lifestyle/mores of those times are very vivid and one can easily picture in their mind's eye what it must have been like.Written in the first person,it suggests what MIGHT have been running through Jesus' mind as He starts taking those steps that ultimately lead to Calvary and the struggle of His wholly human side with His wholly divine side. Particularly riveting is His conversation with Satan at the end of His 40 days in the wilderness.

Yes, it is a novel. There are characters we have never heard of.But there is also much that is familiar for anybody who has read the New(and Old)Testament. The "fleshing out" of the biblical accounts seems no different to me than how devotionals and meditations seek to add meat to the bones. One way or another, it is a fascinating read.

I'm sure it's OK except where it contradicts scripture. I'll have to check it out.

Karen, have you ever read Taylor Caldwells, "Dear and Glorius Physician", about Luke? You might enjoy it.
''Our culture has accepted two huge lies: The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear them or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.''

Hi Barry....

I think I read that book but it's been years. Maybe time for a reread!

Right now I'm reading one called "Blasphemy"....it's a mystery/sci-fi/romance/just about every genre of fiction writing story.Essentially it's the story of a group of scientists trying to recreate the moment of the Big Bang and harnessing the energy produced.I don't have time right now but later I'll post the conversation with "God" that occurs. It is a cool book and I'm anxious to read further and see whether they come up with a scientific explanation for what is happening or not.
