I had shown the photos to several friends, not photography experts by any stretch of the imagination, who feel the photos were doctored with photoshop. I wonder if some of the obvious experts I see posting in here could shead some light on this. I have to add that it certainly is sad that in this day and age one can't trust what one see's with their own eyes.

unless the ship sank,.. the top image look weird as the bow and stern are clearly out of line to the point the ship would have torn,.. other than that, you should be working for Disney if your that good at photoshop!

Damn. I,m sorry but I also received these via email a few days ago and according to this site the photos were from a north Atlantic crossing in 1987. Again, I believe them to be authentic but not on Superior.

That boat should be at the bottom of the lake or sea if the top picture is accurate.take a ruler up to your screen and follow the lines from back to front of the ship,.. they should form a cross somewhere on the mast of the crows nest (the tower in the front),... just to the eye, its clear enough to see its way out and that ship is likely at the bottom if these are genuine pictures... the bottom ones seem authentic in my opinion...

conclusion: these images are probably real, but that boat need to be at the bottom to make it so.

The pictures are posted on a reputable site from 1987 making extremely unlikely they were photoshopped. Look at my edited post above. Using the ruler method it is clear that as you can see from the calm water shot that the bow of the boat is significantly higher than the area where you are placing your ruler. This is hor the boat is constructed.

if authentic,.. that boats in the bottom,.. no boat could survive such a bend.

to quote it from the website,.. it has apparently survived but that is very bent,..

:The storm pictures below were taken during a North Atlantic storm in February 1987 while the ship was en route from Europe to a U.S. East Coast port. The pictures were taken by Capt. George Ianiev, who was the ship's Second Mate at the time. The big blue wave was the largest wave the ship encountered during the storm; seeing it hit the ship made the vessel's master question whether they would survive the storm."
