My dad smoked, my teachers smoked(yes in the class room), my doctor smoked, people smoked in planes, they smoked in trains. They smoked in elevators, they smoked on escalators, they smoked in bars..they smoked in cars. They smoked on tv and they especially smoked in movie stars.
They smoked in church.

Why do I smoke now....this is what I learned.

I'm not claiming it as as good excuse.
I'm saying that I did not know any better.
My role models are what set the trend.

Is that simple enough for you HBomb

Exactly, as Andre said, I did not know any better either. Hell, when my mom was in the hospital giving birth, she was able to smoke. I remember visiting her after she had my little sister and she was having a smoke, holding my new baby sister.

It was 2 years this spring for me. Quite an accomplishment for a truck driver as far as I'm concerned. I had some chemical help, though.

i quit cold turkey 2.5 years ago. I did it for my family. I smoked well over 20 years.... and i have never felt better in my life. i had no idea all the stuff i was missing out on because i smoked.

i too knew no better. EVERYONE i knew growing up smoked. Hopefully i will be a good example to my daughter and she will never smoke. (we dont know anyone who smokes.)
If you are not apart of the solution, then you are apart of the problem.

I smoked for over 20 years as well. My inspiration was my daughter. I wanted to live to see her grow up. At the rate I was going, it wasn't going to happen. I would lie down to sleep at night and I would gurgle with every breath I took. Smoking was killing me, I believe. I was prescribed both Zyban and Nicoderm, came home one night, chain-smoked my last pack until I almost puked, threw on the patch and never looked back. It's absolutely amazing how fast your body starts to heal itself after you quit.
