Yes, there has just been a warning about tomatoes. I can't remember where but I know that many fast food places in Toronto a couple of weeks ago weren't serving tomatoes on their sandwiches or in their salads because of it. I thought it was from a grower in the States but again, I'm not sure.
People who use the internet to stalk or creep are generally useless, boring people. REALLY!!

This warning is almost a month old! Yes, it's salmonella and the last I heard, they haven't determined the origin yet. The FDA has announced that cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes and tomatoes still attached to the vine are safe. Hot House tomatoes are on the suspect list as well as field tomatoes.
I don't think we're in Kansas anymore!

Really? I was at that one at lunch and they gave me tomatoes. Weird. Maybe they just got a new shipment from local produce?

I get all of Health Canada's email warnings about food issues regularly, when they are issued. I have seen nothing about samonella and tomatoes that come from Canada. I'm aware of the US problem, but there has been nothing about Canada, AFAIK.

Not quite. This was reported just this morning on MSNBC.

Since suspect tomatoes were removed from grocery store shelves and restaurants, salmonella cases continue to be reported. Now, they're wondering if tomatoes are to blame at all!

U.S. rethinking tomatoes as salmonella source

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25417250/

They're thinking that maybe the water (that the tomatoes are washed in) may be contaminated.

Water may be suspect in tainted tomatoes

I hope they clear this mess up soon. It takes a long time to slice cherry tomatoes to put on my homemade burgers!
