...absolute power corrupts absolutely.
This certainly seems to be human nature at work. It especially seems to apply to government employees.
Any comments??

You're creating a thread on a common misquote of Lord Acton.
"Power <span style="color: #FF0000">tends</span> to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely", the original quote, is far different from the oft-misquoted "Power corrupts: absolute power corrupts absolutely"
The supposed 'good guys' from the west, the Reform Party campaigned on a platform of not wanting the 'perks' of the job was it not? They wanted nothing to do with pensions or official residences and such for they where there to perform a noble function, return Government to the people. Soon after their arrival they reneged and moved into the official residence and all wanted their pensions. Once at the 'trough' all seem to change their tune.
A friend stationed in Afghanistan has retired and stayed on, opening a bomb plant that makes ordinance that look like prayer mats. Profits are through the roof.
Any idea why this is in "Religion"?
Not a clue!!

Unless someone else is being blocked as well.

What do you mean?
Me. I've been a Baaaaad boy and forbade to post on another thread. I was hoping that I wasn't alone is all.

One could say that due to the mention of human nature, Barry is assuming a biblical view of human nature which assumes a genetic disposition towards sin, rather than just the effect of influence on human nature.
The Bible teaches that because of the Adamic 'fall', we are all born sinners. That is why power tends to corrupt. Power in itself is not wrong. It is our human nature's response to power that becomes a corruptive force.
In the same way we say that wealth in and of itself is morally neutral. It is our human nature's tendency towards the love of money that turns it into idolatry and bondage.
Thanks for telling us what Barry meant.

I did say, "One COULD say.."
I should have worded that more clearly by stating that Barry MIGHT be assuming.. that human nature is inherently sinful, thus qualifying the post to be in the religious forum.
Hey RW, don't take this place so seriously. It's all fun, remember?

It was light-hearted sarcasm
You guys are sooooo sensitive, we're entering caricature territory!
Ahh, then we need tags that distinguish between "light-hearted sarcastic banter" and "heavy yet sarcastic banter" with "dead-serious heresy hunting stuff".
Maybe for the benefit of the slower wits on here such as myself, you could create a system, for example <light hearted sarcasm> Yeah right! Your mother needs a slap in the head for the way you were raised!!</light hearted sarcasm>

You got it right.

Trouble at the drivers license office Barry, or is government employees a euphemism?
Maybe it's just easier to let you know when I'm being serious.
No one specific.
I've worked in different government esatblishments as a contractor.
Some of those managers seem to think that they have their own little kingdom.
I'm sorry to say I know too many churches and religious organizations like that too.

Oh. Just wondering why you started a government corruption thread in the religion section, but it seems to have taken on a life of it's own now anyway. Funny things going on here lately.

Funny?? Freaking hilarious!!!
It was not a government corruption thread per say.
Just about power.
