Default When did the soapbox turn into post your obituary?

That's all you seem to see on here lately and it's pretty depressing. I just don't get why there are always posts about someone's death. Now I'm not talking about things such as local "big news" deaths but those that no one cares about. Any input would be greatly apreciated.

Well Daddy it's called respect. I agree this place is going downhill. You can't joke anymore and some people like too tear things apart.

Actually, for some of us, the occasional posting of obits of well known figures is newsworthy. I would not have known about Fred Loader's passing had someone not posted it here. That to me is more interesting than who makes the better pizza in town.

I think WYD is asking why EVERY SINGLE DEATH ANNOUNCEMENT you hear about locally is posted, followed by a string of condolences by people who have no connection at all to the person.

RIP soapbox you were such a nice person. Cremation at dusk followed by all night drinking binge.

Some people like to use this board as a showcase. They want to give off the impression that they are compassionate and caring to the extreme. Usually when people have to go to such extremes, it's because they are trying to convince themselves of something they know deep-down they are not.

You're right, the amount of "prayers go out...", "deepest condolences...", and "my heart breaks..." type of threads has hit the level of extreme in here, and because of that they lose any significance.

A death that is news worthy is always appreciated ----
BUT some of the deaths that occur in other places of the world is what gets me ....WHY do people post things about someone NONE of us even know ??

I completely agree RWGR, when yuo are constantly "my heart goes out", or "Thoughts and prayers to the family" it dilutes the meaning behind it. Like when yuo said your prayers that night, do they actually go out to the family of every Tom, [censored], and Harry? If they do, I think you carry too much on your shoulder.

I agree that the thoughts and prayers comments are kinda redundant. It is often said because people do not know anything meaningful to say in the face of death.

there already is a forum for it... it is called announcements... that is where birthday wishes go, birth news, obit news... things like that go.

I can say for one thing, most people don't want their loved ones talked about on Soonet after they have passed away.
I know of one person specifically who was pissed to find a thread about his loved on Soonet, its insulting considering no one KNEW his relative personally. Its like showing up at someones funeral without knowing the family and assuming they give a [censored] how YOU feel.

Ahh, very good point, perhaps something to ponder before creating a post about someone you knew passing away. You may know them, but what you have done essentely is invite all of soonet into the funeral
