I like my ferrets.. as they are much like a cat or dog. but sleep 20-22 hrs a day. and are litter trained will not poop outa litter pan and will go back to cage to poop..

but when they are up they like to play.. and no they are not up all night. If we are gone mine are in cage. also when company comes in cage I do not allow them out to sleep as they are good hiders also..

they get 1 hr play time am and one up to 2 at night time outa cage. and they sleep the rest unless up to go to the wash room at the bottom of cage.

Plus what ever time they get out when the kids take them out.. I take them to school with me.. to the park.. outside etc.. but you do not have to be with them all the time..

No pet is really cheap. I have guinea pigs and although they don't require as much cost as a dog-they are cheap to buy (and adopt at the shelter) but the expenses add up with the pellets, hay, and aspen. Time spent needs to be -time outside (I have a garden fence for them ), cuddles and petting, and cage cleaning once a week. They are wonderful pets but are prone to back problems if ppl but them in exercise balls or hold them without supporting their butts.

They are cute- they purr when showing affection, hop when they are happy, and squeek when they smell food. They sleep on your schedule usually. They aren't noctunal..but if your up at night they usually will be too. Mine are in my room and if they hear me awake they pretty much ask for attention. They require fresh raw vegetables everyday- another cost.

They can be left alone, but need attention after that.
