You could complain to City Hall, but i doubt they will care or even that "O" fella who likes to state he has done everything for this town.

I understand the cost but maybe the city should spend their money more wisely then some of the other crap they do...

My other concern besides sidewalks is the simple fact that our family bathrooms only have small change tables...well has anyone ever thought about the dignity of an adult or teen who wears a diaper and has an accident while out shopping?

well now because we have no change areas for adults that person either has to spend there day in a soiled diaper or has to leave

Now can someone tell me how fair that is?

Well again it is to costly for every town/city to accommodate everyone in life.

I think Areas like downtown area streets and mall area should have better sidewalks and possible bathroom areas for the elderly or whomever has such issues as you described.

I understand again money...but why cant we accommodate everyones basic needs? every person pays taxes...every person has rights...
and just because a person has a disability does not make them any lower or any less of a person to consider there needs

You are completely right, Peanut. It is unfair to those who need the facilities. It is not a new thing; people have been disabled for as long as we have existed, yet our city cannot accomodate them? There should be a change area for adults. And even if the washrooms have a stall for a person in a wheelchair, there is not usually enough room for the wheelchair and another person like yourself who is helping the person.

No one ever claimed they are of a lower class and should be treated unequal, but money is the issue .. start a fund raising campaign for funds for such a program to help facilitate the elderly or whomever has such disabilities.

Sure ppl pay taxes..well most have or do .. and everyone has the right to be treated plesantly when they are out in the shopping areas of town .. but again cost is the issue and taxe dollars get spent on many other things that ppl need or towns require to stay operational = no money left over.

    I understand
I wasn't accusing anyone on here though of saying they are unequal or lower class (just want to make that clear)

I don't know maybe there nothing that can be done...but All I Know is something should be done

Ah so basically you have no training in such areas to actually voice a strong opinion on such a matter if given the time to speak infront of a committee.

Get a campaign going and get some ppl who have credentials involved in it and ppl to back it up. Then the city may consider in its review of 2009-2015 to accommodate ppl at that time.

I was not trying to belittle you if thats what your thinking . i was hoping you did have some training within the field as that would be better for you to voice a stronger opinion is all.

How to get a campaign going is something easy to do, but i have to research as well as to how and if any licences are needed for such a campaign.

I am serious about this as i was talking about this back in 1999 and still fk all has been done about it.

2nd: Alot of the sidewalks do not have a slope at the end to cross a road!!!

3rd: So many doors at busy common stores and restaurants do not have the button to open the door

Its just really unreal to me how unaccessible this city is for people in wheelchairs...especially the sidealks...to me thats the worst

Is there someone or somewhere i can go or write a letter to to make a complaint...All i know is i never realized until i had to push a wheelchair around how hard it can be to access places or just wheel around in this city </div></div>

You don't like it move to montreal and see how your disabled friend likes to live there.

a few small changes could make a big difference without costing all that much money, like adding a change area. or fixing some curbs downtown. there's a lot of areas where the sidewalks are good but the curbs need to be redone. or replacing a few doors. one step at a time.

Disabled people have a RIGHT to access public areas. It does not matter what it costs, it needs to be done.

At one time, people in wheelchairs, or with baby strollers had to use a freight elevator to go to the second floor. Now they have a public elevator. But there are still [censored] that try to go up the escalator in a wheelchair, or with a baby in a stroller. A few weeks back one of those [censored] hurt another shopper, and a employee at Sears because he choose to take his wheelchair up the escalator. It was a mess, and the Fire dept. was even called to get the jerk and his wheelchair down. Three people were in alot of danger, because of one wheelchair bound jerk! As far as I`m concerned, he should have been charged. From what I heard, he had been told a number of times NOT to go up the escalator, but refuses to listen. And the same with people who take their babies up that way, ARE YOU NUTS???? Accidents HAVE happened! Use the elevator! Some people are just plain STUPID!

And before anyone wants to [censored] on me for my comment, my grandmother was a double amputee, and I would have NEVER put her in danger like that! Also, there were acouple of times that she was unable to go into a place of business, and believe it or not, they came outside to help her . It`s all in how you treat people. She got what she needed without going inside, I was there. She got great service, but yes, I do also understand that more places need some changing.

i'm not trying to [censored] on you, but what does this have to do with the need to finish making places accessible?
