Default silly hospital question

If I'm not wrong I thing all the rooms are going to be eithersemi or private in the new hospital, what happens if you only have ward coverage? Will you have to come up with the difference or will it be like it is now if they stick you in a semi and you don't have the coverage and they just wave it.

NO.. I just asked the same thing not that long ago.. My son was sick and we only had ward coverage as out insurance plans never covered even semi private.. well they stuck him in a private room...

They told me the same thing THAT now a days you get what you get.. if you can afford to ask for private or semi private then your lucky but hospital beds are full and you pretty much get what you get and ohip covers it...

but if you ask for private or semi private then they bill insurance company as it was normal but if you only have ward coverage and they only have priavte available thats what you get... (for nothing but moved when a ward bed comes up if your health can take the move)

Yes, hp2 is right; if you only have ward coverage, you will get whatever is available. God, when I was hospitalized, I NEVER got a private room and I am covered. They were already taken.

But people with ward coverage (so, basic OHIP coverage) will get a semi-private room. You don't pay extra.

Yeah, it is different if you ASK for a specific room. But it is not a patient's problem if they only have private or semi-private available.

No, not silly at all; how are people to know this unless they have experienced it? I am sure many people wondered the same thing.

Sorry to hear your baby is ill, Shawn's girl. I think that pediatrics only has private or semiprivate rooms anyway. My son was in when he was 10 months old and there were no ward rooms then.(4 years ago).

    Hope baby is better soon.

there are two ward rooms on the pediatric ward, but they are mostly used for adults and not usually for the kids.
