tire question

my 2000 s 10 has small tires on it the rim size it 15 inch anyone know how big of a tire i can go with on a 15 in rim? right now its sitting on 205 70 r 15

It's more the width of the rim that counts.
And it depends on the car.
As the tire gets wider, it gets taller, so......
Call a tire shop with the rim diameter and width along with you make and model of car.
Sometimes there is little room for big changes, unless you change the rim to a new offset.

you wanna go wider, then look at a smaller aspect ratio....205/70 is gonna be about the same height as a 225/60 but you gotta keep in mind that it will be wideras that is what the first number tells ya that....

for your truck, a set of 235/60/15's will work just great on it, as that is what I had on my 95 S10 2wd way back when....they rub the slightest amount, but just don't turn it all the way to the steering stops. the back you can go wider and taller if you want, but the 235/60's were the limit for the front. you can't go any higher on the aspect ration cause then you will be rubbing the fenders....any questions jus ask me dude [img]/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif[/img]

sorry timbit but your wrong... a 205 70 is not going to be the same height as a 205 60 the 60 will be shorter. and the overall tire diameter will be smaller. .. the only way you can go with a smaller tire.. (height in the side wall) is if you make it up in diameter... eg... some poor pathetic fool i once knew bought rims of for his civic where were a 195/80r13,(stock) inorder to keep with the overall outside diameter of his tire so he would not scre up his speedo,and so they would fit in the well he had to go to a 195/40r17 that gave him the same overall outside diameter of tire.. you might not be able to go wider.... you can not go from a 195 to a 205 on some vehivles because you will not be able to turn the wheel without rubbig because rubbign= bad.

i deal with tires every friggan day and you have no idea how many times customers will come and tell me they want a 205 instead of a 195 (which is what their vehicle will call for) and then i tell them that it won't fit but they insist that they will and you all know that the customer is always right.... so i go and pull the tires, and guess what!!!! they won't fit!!!!

oh don't get me started with you.. i have many a bone to pick with you... but again your wrong and ia m right.. you can have a 205 60 and a 205 70.. just means the sidewall is a little taller ... the width of the tire has nothing to do with height... you can have a super wide 235 and a short sidewalll 40 or a 235 and a higher side wall of a 60
i guess what ia m trying to get at is that it is the height of the sidewall and the rim diam that determins the overall size of the tire... ( how tall it stands) and well you can't really play with width... depending on application.

and that is if the 225 fits in place of the 205 cause then the tire WILL be wider, even though it may be about the same height

ugn no.. if you have a 205 70 17 and a 205 60 17 the 60 17 will stand shorter then the 70.. they will both be the same witdth... get your [censored] over here so i can learn you how to meausre tires.
