My nephew works for an oil co in Dubai.....my SIL and BIL went there to visit and they liked it.A man in Dubai got caught for drunk driving and got 3 months in jail plus 25 lashes. My SIL says it's safe to walk there after dark and many families do. She didn't say anything about wearing a robe.

As for this couple she must have known the rules. I always say, "when in Rome, do what the Romans do"..........very simple

Are you sure of this or is it some of the propaganda from the States. The reason I'm asking is everyone knows how brutal things must be in Syria according to the US. My brother worked there for a few years with an oil company and he found them to be very nice people who were quite like Canadians in many ways. An example of this was in the way wemen dressed, they couls wear the traditional garb or jeans and tee shirts as nobody cared. Also they were very friendly people, the part that he liked the best was that quite often the store owners would ask you to have a cup of tea and to sit and talk. You would never turn them down because that would be considered very rude. But as has been posted before by others "when in Rome do as the Romans do".

Grumpy this is not Syria...its the Arab Emeret Republic....... and a very rich country with oil. Yes then people are friendly.....as my SIL says all the stores are owned by families.1 Bro is the butcher another sells groceries etc etc....but the laws are very strict there.

I wonder if the police saw you having sex on a beach in the Sault...what would they do? Probably give you a slap on the butt for indecent exposure.
