    Thumbs down Drinking and Driving

is it just in this city? To me it seems to be happening more often lately. Is it just that they are getting caught more often or is it happening more?? Do people not remember that drinking and driving kills? What do the rest of you think? Do we need to have cops sitting outside the bars every night breath testing everyone? Is that what it's come to?

Pretty soon that's exactly what's going to have to happen. It's getting horrible. I won't even touch my car keys if I've had more than 2 drinks because I know that's my limit before I can potentially be a hazard to myself or worse, others. I don't know how many times I will still call my parents or friends to come pick me and my vehicle up if I've had too much and I'm at a bar. I've even left my vehicle behind, all locked up, hoping that no one breaks into it because I've made a bad decision of drinking too much.

I had exactly 2 drinks and received a DUI, I would advise anyone and everyone to not drink at all. Some alcohol is stronger, you might think you'll be o.k. but you won't be. I learned the hard way and I will not touch a drop if I'm driving...hence why I don't have my license now. 2 drinks can still make you blow over!

Sad part is I had a DD who decided to meet us at the bar instead of driving us and I said o.k. cause I only had 2 drinks and was only going 3 blocks, he was going to make sure he drove us home after the bar. Thinking 2 drinks, I'm fine, I shouldn't blow over YA right!

That is really too bad Lizzard - it could have happened or has happened to any of us for sure.

The positive thing about it is it is making drivers more aware of their responsibilities as a driver and the dangers of drinking and driving.

I have a relative who is an alcoholic - he wrecked every vehicle he ever had due to drinking and driving...thank God he never hurt anyone nor himself. That was many many years ago and he is now a recovering alcolholic but he kept on doing it.

These are the ones who we need off our streets for sure.

Actually it happens far far less than it used to.
Years ago nobody thought twice about have a few belts and getting behind the wheel. Hell people used to go drinking and cruising for something to do.
There were no consequences. When I was a kid I watch my friend whom I was ridings bikes with get hit and killed by a drunk driver. The guy got a fine. That was it.

It's just reported more now. Especially in smaller towns/cities where there is no other news to report.

my husband was in a horrible car reck almost 14 years ago(14 years on october 30). He was drinking and driving across the river and ran his car into a telephone poll at 100miles an hour. He was pronounced dead but strangly enough pulled through, but was left in a coma for 30days. After comming out of the come he was paralized and had to re-learn everything. he was left with perminate brain damage and some physical isuess as well. Thankfully he only hurt himself in his accident and now spends his time talking to youth here in the soo through an organization call Focus Sault Ste. Marie. He tells his story to the kids in hopes that they will think twice before they drink and drive. If you have kids in highschool i bet that they have been to a PARTY GROUP and have hear him speak. Please everyone dont drink and drive, its not worth it.

Wow Boo thats a powerful story and a strong message - glad your hubby has recovered (although I'm sure it was a very difficult time for all of you) and is now able to share the story...not everyone is so fortunate.

my dad was drinking and driving 14 years ago this past august, wrecked his truck on the ranger lake road and was dead by the time they found him. This was not the first time he had been in an accident while drinking, use to even drink whle driving, if the laws were stricter back then I most likely wouldnt have lost my dad at the age of 13. I still think the laws are too soft. I won't drive after 1 beer, or within an hour of having that one beer unless I had it at supper time or something like that, i'm sure I could drink more and be fine but why chance it? my Kids will always know no matter what time of day or night that they can call me for a ride, I'll drop everything i'm doing and go right away, or have someone else go if for some unknown reason I am unable to.
BooBoo i'm glad your Husband has decided to share his story, if it prevents even 1 person from drinking and driving it is more than worth it!!!!

I too have always told my boys that I don't care what time it is, I will get up and drive to town to get them. I've done it a few times over the years and would do it again tonight if they needed me too.

I think anyone who gets behind the wheel after drinking and kills or injures someone should be charged with Manslaughter, and they should be punished accordingly.

I work in the field that tries to prevent drunk driver and you wouldn't believe the hassle and arguments I get from people that believe that they are ok to drive after having "just a few" All rational thought goes out the window. And I'm an idiot because I don't know what talking about! meanwhile I'm trying to save that person grief from having to pay thousands of dollars in fines, not kill themselves or others and doing my job protecting the establishment. Sometimes they are amusing and most often if they argue they are just annoying.

I hope the day comes soon that ALL cars come from the car plants with alchohol detection devices installed that won't allow a car to move when someone is under the influence.

It would solve the problem of ANYONE driving with alchohol in their systems, not just repeat offenders.

It would add a lot of cost to the price of cars, but it would keep loved ones from getting killed by drunks. Which is a higher price to pay in the end?

Can you have something like that installed in your vehicle?
I am not merely a mass of molecules, incoherently careening through time and space. I am a child of God, destined for another world, a world before which this one pales in significance. Our spiritual preparation for the next world is to be the priority of this life.

As a condition of getting thier license back.
Someone like her who has NEVER had a license won't have one in whatever vehicle she happens to get into.

Unless they deem otherwise, due to her track record and CR.. it's quite possible.
