What is the cheapest version and is it possible to find one for 319 bucks? Is it any good compared to say a GTX260 OC? Discuss.

no dice on that, i just ordered my BFG GTX 260 OC for 289$. its supposed to be hands down better than the 4870. I only went with nvidia for the price as both cards seem to be powerhouses. The 4870x2's run 600$ minimum(that i can find).
Here's a link to a fairly decent chart that compares video cards across a wide variety of applications:

** Phenom II 1100T BE @ 4.1 GHz | Asus M3A79-T | Corsair H80 | 8 GB OCZ Reaper HPC DDR2-1066 | Radeon HD7970 |Auzentech X-Fi Prelude | 2 x 640GB Blacks in Raid 0 | Silverstone DA750 | Logitech G51 Surround Sound Speakers | Tritton 5.1 Headhones | 3 x 22" monitors Eyefinity | Tt Element G**
I have a 24" widescreen and the reason I was asking about the card was I saw what I thought was a 4870X2 at Future Shop open box for 319. It turned out to be a 3870X2...lol.
I got an EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 superclocked for $337 shipped, and haven't looked back since. Powerhouse of a card with the EVGA warranty and customer care. Only problem is the dollar took a dump and now it's $400+ card.
I recently read a review of a BFG GTX260 maxcore OC, also very impressive. Adding the extra 24 cores, shader, processors of wtf you wanna call em made a nice boost.
A 216 core GTX260 is a very good card, seeing as the GTX280 and 4870X2 are wildly expensive. A 4870 nicely cooled will also yield very good results.
I would get 2 x 4850's.
I,m sure that would be killer but I cheesed out before and got a solid oc'ing mobo without dual slots so economically that rules that out.
The 1gb version of the 4870 may also be an option since you have a 24" monitor.

All i run is 1 x HD4850 and it is all you need for many games today and near future.
I Average 130-190 FPS in COD World At War using a custom config .. depends on map i am on ... lowest i have seen is 93-120 in certain map areas.
