    Default Q6600

I have never owned a cpu for so long that has remained so good as to continue to sell for higher prices. I bought mine a year ago for 220 bucks.

I bought a dual core 2.8 over 3 years ago that still rivals a lot of CPU's on the market today. It's now collecting dust since I dropped in a new 3.16 E8500 Wolfdale.

Too bad you don't have a 45nm quad maxwell.

After putting a nice fan on my NB, I have my Q6600 up to 3.8GHz...

I had mine to 3.6ghz with good cooling too and good mobo no need for NB fan, but this CORE-DUO 2 at 4.2ghz smokes it still in FPS for gaming something like 30-40 FPS more in many gaming tests and that is why i went with this instead of Q6600, which i sold it off.

Also this cpu at 4.2ghz out performs a Q9450 at 3.6-3.8ghz in many games.

My rig will blow yours away maxy. There's no need to upgrade CPU for the gain I'd get while wasting money.

I have 4GB of DDR 2 as well.

    E8600 @ 4.2ghz, an do 4.5ghz, but to hot.

I aggree however that a truely GOOD PC is one that is both functional and cost effective. Sure, the extra few hundred you spend will most likely give you more power, and more frames ... but the average gamer wants something they can maximize framerates, and minimize cost with .... such as the Q6600 did.

It's a good chip and still the best bang for the buck in my opinion.

    I agree totally, I got my Q6600 for $100 and a E4300, so can't beat that price/performance.

Same with my video card, was $339 at the time, and is now over $400, and is the 3rd best card out there, behind the GTX 280 and of course the 4870X2, but that card has 2 GPUs

I like my current setup, can't directly think of what to upgrade for what I use it for.

Yes nice rig Hans. People ask me all the time for advice when buying PCs, and I always ask what they use it for. Most times a simple machine is more than enough.

Also forgot to mention that the GTX 295s are now tops...
