So, i want to get my son's a power wheels for christmas and i was wondering if anyone has one and can tell me how well they hold up?? How many years can you get out of a battery with normal use? How do they work on grass? I know their is many different types, but i was going to get them the mustang one.

We have a jeep and we are always charging the battery and it sucks on grass or a bit of gravel.

If there is a bit of a hill it spins out,,

ya i was debating on buying a gas minature 4 wheeler or a power wheels. i am trying to weigh the optins . I think my kids would get more use/years out of a gas one. but i am also woried about the safety aspect of it. My oldest one can drive a fullsized atv, with an adult on the back, but the little one would not leave the back yard.

We have real mini-raptor best thing my daughter ever got. For the $300-400 your going to spend on a plastic power wheel, you might as well spend $500-600 on the real deal(not a raptor though) I know they sell the real ones at Chris's tire, but not sure if they stock them during the winter. My daughters raptor is pretty big but she handles it very well and she is 4, I though it was too big but it's fine for her.

Someone rides on the back with her at all times though, she likes to look away at the birds, flowers, trees. Someone has to be there to remind her to watch where she's driving.

We bought my oldest a 50cc suzuki when he was 4. I thought it was too much but my husband insisted it was fine. He was so good on that thing it was amazing. It had a tether cord on the back so until we were comfortable we walked / ran behind him with the cord in hand. We had that thing for years. All of our kids rode it and we sold it to a family with twin boys and they still use it.

Spend the extra a get a gas powered machine, IF your able to supervise the child at all times. If not I'd say get a battery operated one.

We have the tether option and governor on ours as well, I prefer to ride along rather than run behind lol

my son is 5 soon to be 6. Supervision is not a problem. my other son is only 1 and i want something that will last so he can use it too. I am thinking i am going to go with the gas powered one. i might have to get one with a higher weight limit so i can test it out.

I'm pretty sure my daughters raptor is 200lbs, but the other ones that Chriss' tire sells might be different for weight.

our barbie powerwheels is up in the shed been up there the last two summers... We have a 50cc 4 wheeler we got from chris's tire.. I believe we paid 427 dollars outa the crate almost 2 yrs ago.. RUNS LIKE A CHAMP.. never a minutes problem.. we also have a 70cc gio 4 wheeler... Nice bike but needed some tlc from new.. and we also have a 50 cc yamaha dirtbike which is bored over... that is my daughters.. NEEDLES TO SAY... I paid the same for the jeep as we did for the first 4 wheeler...the 70 cc was a gift from her aunt and uncle and the dirt bike husband bought used from a friend...

THE JEEP DOES NOT GET TOUCHed Now.. I also have a 5, and 3 yr old here...

that is the bike from chris's tire.. they now have different modles with suspensions etc.

there is a pic of my at that time 5 yr old daughter... she loves her bikes. My sons on other hand really have no interests.. the little one is starting to show interest but my middle child could care aless..

and there she is with her bike.. she was 6 in this picture.. never had training wheels on the dirtbike..

she is responsible and thats where it makes the world difference.. she fools around it gets taken away for a bit.. she knows...

so my advice is dont waste your money on powerwheels..... cause they grow out of them rather quickly..

i know this isn't what you are asking, but my boys have a battery powered 4 wheeler that came from zellers and they were able to drive it from about one year old and still have fun on it(although the battery is fried now). it worked on grass and sand and it lasted for about 2 years until i over charged the battery...grr... anyways, if you are getting a big one for your older boy the little one might like one of these. they are about $50

My boys have a jeep, it works quite well, even on the grass and going up hills and on gravel, it even gets them through the huge tractor ruts in the mud, but the battery does go quick

You can get a regular lawn mower tractor battery for the power wheels and wire it in, I don't know how a guy at my parents camp did it for me and it works great but only in High speed. But I would suggest you get a regular kids 4 wheeler maybe you can find one second hand and clean it up for your kid.
