    Default working in the US

I was just wondering, when I am done school there may be employment opportunities for me at the War Memorial Hospital across the river. How does a person go about still living in Canada and commuting to work in the US. I tried looking online but most things were referring to US citizens living in Canada and working in the states. Anybody have any ideas?

you for sure have to get a work visa to work over there, other then that i really couldn't help you, perhaps call customs and ask them where you could look for information

There must be easy answers, because there are a few Canadians that work at War Memorial. The hospital deals with it every day, maybe they could help.

From what I understand, you just apply for the job. As long as you can legally enter the U.S. any other way, once you're hired, your employer will make all the arrangements and applications for your work visa.

NO, NO, NO, you need your work visa before you can work in the States and don't count on anyone else. If by chance you do put your name in at War Memorial Hospital ask them if they take care of it and if not what the best route to take is. I had a relative that got a job in the States who got hired on with the people knowing she was a Canadian so she "assumed" they would take care of it needless to say she got in a lot of trouble.

well i know someone who had to get the job first to get the visa; they were told they needed proof of employment first.

After some research, both Art and Grumpy are right. You start your own application, but you must first have an "offer" of employment.

If its for Nursing, I do believe you will have to write a Michigan License, or any other state you would choose to work in.
