    There is nothing that rams home a distant event that we would otherwise sort of ignore, then coming face to face with imagery. I found this short diary of two war news photographers telling what they saw and how they felt as they took photos for the NY Times on both sides of the Gaza conflict.

    Warning, there are some terrible photos to be found here. War is never pretty.

    My old roommate covered the Georgia offensive last summer for Newsweek and got burned by a blast (not seriously, thankfully). My wife was pretty mad at him for going and didn't understand why he went. I think I understand, but wouldn't want to go myself.

    War is hell, that's for sure.
