What are your opinions? I recently read a few stories of people who chose to have assisted suicide and I'm curious to others opinions.

My questions would be.
How does one assist?
Would that not be Murder?

Example of how someone would assist....
Usually a lot of times people will get the person dying the method of taking their own life, but the person dying does the actual work themselves. Like they will get them a gun or drugs but the person dying will take the overdose or pull the trigger themselves(not saying for all cases just some).
No you don't consent too murder you DO CONSENT too Assisted suicide.

I used to be against it. Then I chose the topic of assisted suicide for an assignment last semester and while doing research, I changed my mind. I watched a documentary about a woman from Duncan, BC where my sister lives who was assisting suicides as well. I really felt for the people who opted to go this route.
The people who want someone to assist with their suicides are desperate to end whatever it is that they are suffering from. Some want to be remembered as a person who still has their faculties. Some want the pain to end. I have been that desperate and it sucks.
There are people, like the woman in Duncan, who will be there and even administer high doses of medications, put a bag on the person's face, etc. Is it murder? Legally, yes. Morally? I do not believe so. I think it is a personal decision; who wants to live with pain? Or a deteriorating body?
I believe that if you think you can't take anymore suffering in your life than you have every right. Its your life and your choice.
People who choose assisted suicide do so only because they are physically unable to do it by themselves. It is not murder.
This is a touchy subject indeed. The way I see it is that if you physically can't go on living with the pain, why would you?
Think of it this way, most people when have a headache, they take pain relivers. They take this medicine, obviously they can't take the pain.
Now multiply this pain by 100, and no medication that can help. How would you handle it?

I'd concent too death.
I agree with Mags.
I believe it should be a choice and the person assisting shouldn't be considered a murderer. I could only imagine how difficult a decision like that is to help someone you love or know to end their life. If I was in the position (and later may very well be) that I couldn't function physically because of pain or illness or wasn't able to live a fulfilling life, I would choose suicide.
My husband and I have already discussed it since I don't know how far my illness will go. We are kinder to our pets than we are to our loved ones.
People who use the internet to stalk or creep are generally useless, boring people. REALLY!!
If your animlas were suffering you would take them to the vet and say your good bye's. I think it should be the same with humans. If the person does not want to suffer anylonger i believe their wishes should be fulfilled. I had a situation in my family where i had a family member who did not want to suffer anymore and was actually telling people he just wanted to die. He completly withdrew from family.
I agree with assisted suicide if the person is in great pain from something that cannot be cured.
We are kinder to our pets at their end of life. The decision to commit suicide or ending your life is never easy it is well thought out. The harder decision is asking some one to help. Society and the law must not treat those who help a loved one or friend as murderers.

Assuming a person is of sound mind, capable of such a decision, dieing with dignity should be our right. Euthanasia is carried out in Canada and the government turns a blind eye as long as it is done quietly and within the proper context. Anyone who has witnessed the lingering death of a loved one can attest to this fact. I don't think we should made to have the exercise done in such a clandestine way as it is now. Suicide itself is not criminal in Canada, why then is assisted suicide?

People think it is cruel to keep a suffering animal alive.

I believe if a person wants it, there's no reason to stop him/her from dying with dignity. If the person is suffering terrible pain with no hope of ever recovering and no cure in sight, why not allow them to end their suffering?
Dr. Kevorkian understood that and he invented the suicide machine. With his machine, the PATIENT made the decision to inject a lethal dose of potassium chloride by pushing a button. Assisted suicide? Maybe so since the doctor was responsible for setting up the machine. But, in the end, it was the patient who pushed the button.
I don't think we're in Kansas anymore!
Who are we and what right do we have to make someone go through such an incredible amount of pain? If it is their will to die, then let them. So because they are bed ridden and in pain, can't actually commit the act themselves, we are going to deprive them from doing so?
I see nothing wrong with assisted suicide.
