    Default Emachines Recovery CD/DVD

    Does anyone have a copy?

My cousins comptuer crashed, they formatted the hd drive without burning the recovery cd.

Her model number is t5048 or something like that.

    Windows XP Media Center Edition.

    Any help is appreciated

BTW We have tried the recovery partition, but something is messed in there too, the Angel back up program freezes.

you could try downloading it as a torrent or better yet just use a different copy of xp mce and use the PID off the computer then you won't have all that bloatware

You can use a standard OEM copy of media center to do the re-install. The key on the machine should work fine.
If Your reading this the topic must be boring.

Sounds more like a HD issue.

If the backup partition can't even load or freezes up. This can indicate an issue with the HD.

You have a backup online program also that is freezing up which is another indicator of something worse (HD ISSUE).

Now of course it could be a virus that has latched itself into the backup partition or somehow when they formated the HD they may have created a new partition and deleted the recovery partition at the sametime or corrupted the partition tables.

I would start off testing the HD with the manufacutuers testing software (seagate, WD) or whichever the drive was made from and see if any errors occur.

If any errors occur post here what they are.
If none occur then its usually a safe bet the HD is ok.

    If it is OK.
Then try a low level format on the HD, yes it takes longer to do.

Then any OEM copy of whatever OS you desire and a valid key should work or even Media Centre Edition with the key on the side should work.

    *note
Not all OEM's will work with all similar OS's keys, but a good amount will.

I love you guys, i really do. I really appreciate the help.

    but,

#1 It is a known issue with this model and Emachines, with the recovery partition created improperly. No t5048 of that series works. The HD is fine, just the partition is messed.

#2 I can't find anyone that has a OEM or even full version of Windows XP Media Center edition.

#3 I just need the recovery disc

I downloaded and burned 2 different torrents for MCE, and they both failed miserably.

The key on the box is still intact.
