i believe i got a 2-3 footer from walmart canada for $17.9ish
www.monoprice.com just made a large order from there for a friend of mine, nearly $200US, and to buy that stuff here probably would have been over $500. Might not be local, but with less than 5 days for shipping well worth it... just send it to Weirs and pick it up.
Oh ya, when it comes to a lot of these home theater places they sucker people into these expensive cables because people don't know about what they are buying... it just sounds good so it must be true right? Well these cables carry digital signals, just a bunch of 1's and 0's. With a digital signal, it either works or it doesn't. Analog signals yes are affected by bad cables... but digital it basically works or it doesn't. As long as the cable is made correctly for what you are intended to use it for, and its made to spec there is no difference between a Monster cable or a cheep $10 cable.
You can buy around a 6ft cable in town for around $6.00 to $10.00.
And yes HDMI is HDMI no matter who the company is, now there is two types of HDMI cables in which one will carry the audio signal and one that will not, but like Shawn mentioned as long as you buy what your intended purpose is for, then you will not need to worry.
I can't remember at this minute.. but i think 1.2 and 1.3 spec carries the audio signal, which most HDMI cables today are speced in that range, basically look for a decent 1.3 speced HDMI cable and don't worry about it afterwords.
may I ask do u need hdmi at both ends? I have a extra hdmi to dvi cable 6 feet long for 20 bucks.

Marketplace on HDMI Cables and accessories.....WOW!!!
I believe this is the episode as its been a while since I watched it, but it also explains a lot from a professional AV guy, http://revision3.com/systm/avcabling/
Like so far the only cables I really have not got into making myself is hdmi and fibre. I usually make my own coax, rca, component... I have most of the material already, I just get the right ends and do all the crimping... myself.
+1 for monoprice.com . Excellent service there.
those are two excellent videos thanks.
