how do i find out my credit report and who i still owe to in collections
how do i find out my credit report and who i still owe to in collections
your bank can do it for you
PLAY HARD OR GO HOME
You can call the local credit bureau and they will give you your history - who has reported you etc... over the phone. At least I did 6 or 7 years ago. Thought I had a perfect credit rating but when I applied for a bank loan I was turned down so I called the credit bureau to find out why.
Apparently the CIBC reported me as defaulting on my student loans for being 1 week late on a payment. Pretty sad considering I was on automatic withdrawal and they were the ones who didn't take it out! It took six months to clear that off my credit rating!!!

NOPE!!
they no longer do it.
you gotta do it yourself via Equifax & it costs money (credit card) online.
its kinda funny when, not in my situation but, someone needs to check their credit history online yet isnt allowed a credit card??
how do they do it????
beats me!!
How Bout Them Cowgirls?
its free if u ask for it by mail

Equifax is the one I use, i check it once or twice a year.. Transunion is the other, but i wouldn't waste my money, only local cities usually use that one. Like landlords or local utilities.
....................
No, Some banks use Transunion, they think they are saving money.
LMAO it is funny seeing information on here that is false.
You need to be checking BOTH Transunion AND Equifax. There is no difference between the two other than different records/providers. It has nothing to do with saving money by banks, and a LOT more companies use Transunion than Equifax.
Actually, I have been in the business for over 20 years, worked for Equifax for 15, I am still affiliated with them now. There is a very big difference in the two companies based on who they have as members reporting to them and how often they are updated. Equifax is global, worldwide company, with the head office being based in Montreal, there are offices all over the world.Transunion IS a much cheaper version of Equifax, making some of these institutions believe they are getting a better deal, they have some info, but not all financial institutions report to them, nor do all collection agencies, so the info is not complete. Transunion charges a lot less for there reports, but they are most definitely not the same as Equifax, not even close. Equifax is the Number 1 Credit reporting agency in the world, they have global offices all over the world, Transunion is the cheaper, less efficient, more cost friendly version of Equifax, they never will be Equifax, or be able to keep the records that Equifax keeps, they don't have the capability or the resources. very few banks use Transunion, and the ones that do, think they are getting a deal. They are not. Some financial institutions are members of both Equifax and Transunion and have different criteria for what one they will use at different situations.

I agree, Equifax is great!
Oh and Weasel, you must call Equifax for that info because Transunion won't have all the info, they will only have some of it. YOu can call your local Credit Bureau to find out what you owe in collections though, they will know what you owe locally.
who is the local credit bureau here?
God some people are so ignorant and unwilling to see other's points. And you have worked where for over 20 years??? If Equifax, then that would explain the "truths" in what you say.
Oh wait, Equifax is in Quebec.
Yup you got it, Transunion is this small backyard nobody company. That is why they are all across North America huh. Oh and wait, Transunion has offices all over the country. Where is Equifax??? Montreal only!
But that's right, they are so much smaller.
The whole point of my original post was to say that people should check BOTH agencies, not one or the other, because you can and WILL see different items!
Agreed!
Major props to NeTwOrK-D@wg.

LOL easy cowboy.
Transunion doesn't give me a score, Transunion doesn't give me an up to date report.
%90 of major banks, credit cards, car loans, mortages, blah blah blah use the information from Equifax. Alot of these companies are basing their applications on the credit score DEVELOPED from Equifax.
And unless you screwed over PUC, or a landlord, then their *USUALLY* isn't anything in Trans. Doesn't matter where there are, or where they have been.
But, your right, its good to check both if you are that cautious.
"Yup you got it, Transunion is this small backyard nobody company. That is why they are all across North America huh. Oh and wait, Transunion has offices all over the country. Where is Equifax??? Montreal only!"
And check your anger at the door buddy, I didn't attack you nor did I make any reference to putting you down. SO LAY OFF.
Transunion can have any shop they want, whereever you want, FACTS ARE MOST COMPANIES THAT DEAL WITH ISSUING CREDIT CHECK EQUIFAX ONLY. Not bad for only being in montreal.

Only time you WILL see a difference is if you OWE money... last time I checked (November 06), None of my credit cards were on there showing(Equifax did), They didn't have my mortage (Equifax did) and Equifax even had my Cell phone bill on there, showing last amount, last payment, 0 days late and all that good stuff.
....................
Actually Jumba, let me correct you.
Firstly, I wasn't replying to you or attacking you.
Secondly, no anger with me whatsoever.
Thirdly, Transuninion DOES give a score. And the scoring system wasn't developed by Equifax at all.
It is called a FICO score, and it was developed by Fair Isaac & Co.

Yes i'm aware of FICO score, but Equifax uses there on, based on their facts.
Anyway, good day to you and hope you ahve a good Canadas Day!
....................
Exactly, if you don't have all the info, does'nt matter what kind of "score" you use, and certainly does'nt matter "who" developed it, its not accurate unless you have the info. Transunion and Equifax give a score based on the info that they have, Transunion does'nt have the capacity or the resources to have all of the info, hence the cheaper service they provide.
