I think it has to do with harvesting hemlock. The same ad has appeared each spring/summer for the last couple years. The hemlock is used for some type of herbal medicine which has become popular thus the need.

I'm not positive it's hemlock but it's some type of low growing pine. The work is extremely back-breaking because the bush grows low on rocks. A little Google research on 'hemlock' or 'hemlock harvesting' might bring some light on the subject.

Anyway, I would assume the earnings difference (100- 150 bucks) is because you get paid by the pound you harvest (wether it took you 1 hour to do it or 18 hours!). I remember some comments a few years back that it's not worth the back pain, the expense to get to the location, and the hours it took to earn any real money.

Well since everyone wanted to know I called today. It is harvesting hemlock and you are paid by the pound to collect it not by the hour.

ouch talk about slave labour, if they want people to harvest the hemlock, then they should offer even a low hourly wage, plus the money per pound.

I believe hemlock is used with curing/treating certain kinds of cancer. If your young and full of energy it's a great way to make some $$$

I think then maybe if it's a scam we should all go out and do it for them and keep the hemlock to sell ourselves unless it's BOUGHT from us at 1$ a lb

That would be a great idea except you would get stuck with the hemlock and none would buy it.
