"The American Republic was bound — is still bound – to follow in the centuries to come the same course to destruction as did Rome. But our real ground of complaint is that we have been pushed down the demagogic road to disaster by conspiratorial hands, far sooner and far faster than would have been the results of natural political evolution. ... We are being insidiously, conspiratorially, and treasonously led by deception, by bribery, by coercion, and by fear, to destroy a republic that was the envy and model for all of the civilized world.” – Robert Welch, Ibid.

The American Republic is age wage an infant, and the rest of the civilized world a grandpa.
Lets see 500 years from now how well the American Republic is doing.
I have always stated, and will state it once again : The USA is not a model to follow, because it's to young. I see it more as an experiment.

An experiment is not finished until it is finished.

I get a little ticked when people compare America to the "Roman Empire".

In the words of "Gore Vidal" recently on "Real Time with Bill Maher" when asked how the "American Empire" he wrote novels about compare to the greatest empire ever known, the Roman Empire ...

"We can't even shine their shoes" he said ...

Roman, Byzantine, Holy Roman, English ... all noted empires that lasted hundreds to a thousand years.

The "American Empire" (tongue in cheek) is set to last ~100 years (early 1900's to present)

In 1000 years world scholars will not even refer to America as an empire. I believe it will end up being one of those "what could've been" stories "but it never materialized".
