    Default The Tale of Despereaux

anybody else read the book..then watch the movie..and be disappointed at how different it was?
i just got done reading the book to my 6yr old..then rented the movie for a treat because she loved the book so much. lol..she hated the movie..she was so mad that they made Gregory mean and didn't have any prisoners and made Miggery have a different father. and quote "whats up with vegetable ghost thing?" lol..i didn't get that whole vegetable guy either..

all these classic books being made into movies bugs me. i don't think a movie is ever better than or as good as the book..but it really irks me when they change things so much that only the basic jist of the book is apparent.

i'm a mean mom, and won't let my kids watch the movie until they've read/have had the book read to them.
we'll be starting InkHeart soon. anybody read it then watch it? how was it..did it follow the book closely or wil i be irritated with it? lol

You'll probably be irritated with the Inkheart. I have read the first three books, but haven't seen the movie. Just by seeing the previews and trailers, I already notice differences from the book. I haven't read or seen all of Tale of Despereaux, so I don't really have an opinion expect that it doesn't suprise me. Everyone I know always seem to enjoy the books more than the movie.

No matter what the book is that they turn into a movie they can never match the book no matter how hard they try as there are things that you can do in print that would never work on film. Plus when you try to compete with how people imagine the story in their brain there just is no way to compete. I wish I had a penny for every time I've gotten the book after seeing what I thought was a great movie only to see how much better the book was. On the bright side this may help make a reader out of her as she gets older.

They made a movie out of 2 of James Pattersons books. I bought 1 of the movies and even though I read the book I couldn't even follow the movie. So now when I read a book I don't watch the movie. They want to make it so different. I just hate that.

there has only been one book that disappointed me,, i think it was the one about the hand that rocked the cradle,, the movie was better than the book,,, that sucked,, but usually i read the book before the movie,,, it is so much better,, you get to set your own scenes, and picture the characters,, and play your own movie in your head~!! the book is always better,,, i am often disappointed by the movies!! but that is ok,, because i direct a much better movie,,in my head!! LOL

thats great as I feel sorry for kids who either won't read or haven't been encouraged to read.
