Default question about book writing

Are concepts /beliefs copywritten? How does that work?
Like people who want to take the bible and write a story about it that's fiction is it easy to do or do they get sued?
I'm asking b.c I had a concept from a dream-to write a sci fi book-but upon further research found that some ppl have the same "concept" as a belief-I guess I could make an example by saying-those who read about indigo children-would that concept be copywritten or can someone write fiction based onan indigo child? or pleaidians (sp) same thing i thinkI don't know..lol. is there a difference between books that tell a story and those that discuss a belief?

Copywrite deals with published/written information. Patent law deals with intellectual property/ideas. If this Pleaidians(sp?) idea is patented you may have a problem.

Many people have based works of fiction on religious ideas or beliefs. One of my favourite authors, Orson Scott Card, incorporates a lot of the Mormon religion and history into his stories and he hasn't been sued that I know of. Of course, he is Mormon and a Science Fiction/Fantasy writer as well.

Good luck with your book. Write it first, worry later!

Philosophies are not copywrited that I know of. Many ideals or 'churches' may be based on certain philosophies, but they certainly don't own them. If this were the case the Catholic Church may have actually had the power to ban the many movies and books it has criticized lately.

I guess you're right about just writing it first-i'm unsire where it'll even go-as characters start to take on a life of their own and i'm not sure what it'll end up being about lol.
