Question Something's not right with my dog? What can I do for him?

Something is going on with my 8 year old golden retriever. He woke us up early this morning, pacing and panting. I got up with him, took him outside where he wondered around eating grass for half an hour. He's really agitated and panting and won't lay down. He wants to be outside eating grass. He ate his breakfast and is still drinking, and has NOT thrown up, but I'm concerned. The panting and agitation worries me.

Any suggestions? Anything I can maybe give him that might help?

My 8 year old rottie gets like that if there is a female in heat somewhere in the neighborhood even though he has been fixed.
If you want the best seat in the house, move the dog.

you should probably bring him to a vet. My freinds dog had syptoms like your dog (same breed) and the dog had something wrong with its liver. It would drink tons of water and pant like it ran a marathon and seemed not to be able to rest or stay still. hope this helps sorry it wasen't better news!

Is your dog still pooping and peeing and all the above looks normal? If so try and wait it out until tomorrow then if it's still happening maybe a trip to the vets would be a good thing.

Yeah, he's still going like normal, but I am worried. We're discussing whether we should call the vet or see how he is in the morning. Its just not like him and thats what has us concerned.

He keeps going for the grass too, which leads me to think that he's got an upset stomach. He's not given any people food at all, only his own dog food. We were away all day yesterday and he was in the house most of the day, so having gotten into anything is pretty much out of the question.

Nope, never! He's way too lazy to get into anything. He just lays on my Leather couch and drools on the pillows.

My chow has hip dysplasia causing her to NOT want to squat to go to the bathroom.
She will sometimes allow herself to back up and her tummy to swell like a little pot belly pig.
She won't lay down because it hurts so just sits there exhausted and in pain. She will breath funny too. She was diagnosed with bad hips so I give her treatment and feed her foods that won't bind her. Does your doggy seem bloated?

My dog also will do breath strangely after drinking to fast. I think she gets water in the wrong spot and it takes a bit of time but goes away.

I hope everything is good now. Dogs eat grass because it makes them feel better. Mine always eats grass.

HE did seem a little better but is back to that same thing again. Pacing and panting. I'm calling my vet first thing and he'll be going to see her. He ate his supper and is drinking fine, peeing is normal too. Hopefully he'll sleep tonight and I'll get him checked in the morning.

He's not right yet. I've called the vets office and I'm waiting for a return call. The receptionist was calling the vet.

He panted until about 4:00 am when I had him outside. He had a small poop and seemed a little better, quieter for the balance of the night. But this morning he gets in position and tries but can't seem to do anything. I'm really concerened that he might have an obstruction or something like that.
Right now he's sleeping quietly. I'm not sure if thats because he's exhausted from yesterday or what, but its not like him. I"m very concerned and am sitting here waiting -- not so patiently for them to call me back!

Just got off the phone and she's recommending I try a Hairball remedy - for cats. They think its constipation thats causing his stomach upset. I'm not convinced, but she also indicated that if he does have a minor blockage - which is would be if he's not vommiting then this would also help with that.

So here we sit. I've just given him the first couple of doses of petromalt and now we wait.

It is kind of funny that every one is eagerly anticipating your dog pooping. Hoping that he will feel better.
Good to know if this ever happens to my dogs.

Hes not improving so far. Hes very quiet and very lethargic, I've just called the vet again and asked that she see us today. I don't care if she see's us and says he's fine. I just rather have her actually see him, if that makes any sense.
SHe's out of the office again and the receptionist said she'll call me back in a bit.
    god, I hate waiting.

He does not like the Petromalt either. I have to force it into his mouth, and he gags and coughs. poor boy. I feel so bad for him.

sounds like what happened to my mom's dog. his pancreas(sp?) was leaking fluid into his blood making him ill. he had to go on some expensive medicatication and special food. hopefully that's not what it is. i think my mom paid a few thousand just for testing to find out what was making him sick.
