I love looking at different types of cakes that people have made. I started making my own cakes last year and find it quite fun. Since I have seen a few people's cakes, I thought I would share my own and invite others to share also. I'm always looking for different ideas for cakes (going to use the rainbow cake mix for my daughter's rainbow butterfly bday cake.)

First time using fondant. I had a friend help with the sculpting.

My FIL's birthday cake this past year, it was in february but we had a frigging bbq in the garage so a BBQ cake was fitting

We have never use fondant and some people we know who bake have asked how the hell we can do it without. I guess we just got better over time and love to do it. I am still waiting on being able to do one for SuzyQ's kind daughter

It was so good. It is 2 layers, first layers was french vanilla cake, 2nd layer was marble fudge cake. With butter cream icing, we added icing coloring to make it pink and green ect...and used gel for the top of the cake, her name and the princess ect.. we put gold and silver edible beads around it, little flowers around it. I may have a side view of it, when I find it i ll post it as well. We had to use dowels so that the cake would not collapse.The whole cake had a total of 6 cake mixes.. and 2 tubes of butter cream icing we bought at the bulk barn. that food coloring for icing is amazing, you just put a pin size drop in the icing and it colors it. a little goes a long way thats for sure.

It was a lot of work to make it, took us about 3 hours. We thought it would of been cheaper and more meaningful to make it ourselves, yes it was more meaningful but by the time we bought everythign the total was about 85 dollars..lol...

Chase me- we were going to buy fondant but changed our mind. I guess it would look nice for some cakes but the ones you did turned out great without it and same as ours, im glad we did not use fondant

Chase me - I'm planning on doing a burger cake for my husband's birthday, what type of pan did you use for the top bun??

i bought a glass bowl same size as the pans i was using and made sure it was oven safe. ketchup n mustard are icing relish is mint leaves put between two pieces of wax paper and rolled out we made kaiser style bun with icing sugar on top but you can ussunflower seeds out of the shell to make the seedy buns.

I didn't have the right tip for the decorator, it wasn't small enough so it didn't turn out as well as I wanted.
