Just a warning to anyone needing one this year.
There's only 3 guys in town that are actively installing this year, so plan on very long waiting times to get in. Book early if you want one before March.

I need one for the wife's car this year. Do they still make them with the cold start feature?
great advertising
Anyone who would cut into a new cars wiring harness these days is nuts IMO. So many sensors and electronics and sensitive wiring,I think its a big mistake to hack into all of this. Many new cars offer it as an option, thats the way to go IMO.
hey..I'm not advertising...I'm just saying that there's gonna be a shortage of installers this year.
And no...it's not a good idea to "hack" into any new car's wiring. Like I said, there are three guys in town that can do it this year, so plan ahead.
If you're happy with 150" range from a factory starter on your $50,000 car, then I agree that OEM is the way to go. If you'd like it to work anywhere besides your driveway, then make sure that it's done by someone that knows how.

I duuno about you, but my car is there to serve me, not the other way around. Most people that can afford a remote starter can afford to get a new car when the old one wears out. Of course if you plan on getting a half million klicks on your engine...I won't own my car by then.
Using the cold start feature when it's seriously cold can save you from waking up to find a block of ice where your battery used to be. Not that idling a cold engine is the best thing for it, but used judiciously, it could save you a hassle.
Most of them only idle for 3 minutes, and some also have a temperature sensor that only lets them start below a preset point.

Remote start is the best invention ever.

I can't wait till the dealership in sudbury ships me my friggan power door lock module so I can get my remote starter wired in with my door locks wired into it. It better be before the snow flies.

Who needs a Remote starter..Send the man out to start it..Geesh
My car is 12 years old and doesn't have a block heater. I've never, ever had my car not start. I've got almost 150,000km on my car and it's as reliable as ever. Proper maintenance counts for more than a block heater.
When I buy my new car next summer, I WILL get a remote starter, though.I'd rather avoid most of the 'bells & whistles'. 'Bells & Whistles' have accounted for 80% of the reasons we've had to take our 4 year old van to the mechanic. Not worth it.

I have never plugged my car in. Infact when we go out to camp we have to park along side the road and then snowmachine in. It has sat for a weekend in -30 weather and started first crank. A remote start would be amazing though. They would sell alot more remote starters if they were hot men that you didn't have to feed that went out without being told and started and scraped your car for you!!!
