HD Loader's compatibility isn't nearly as good as one of the newer chips though unfortunately.

Agreed, and unfortunately, having moved up here very recently from Ottawa, i'm not used to not having access to as many resources for PC's and Game modding, etc.

I just might have to mod it next time I'm in Ottawa...

ya I do have a hard drive, primarily, looking to copy my games onto the HD...

all good points about compatibility....but most games do work.if a game dont work, you can always patch it.i love the fast load times when running from the hdd.

Yeah, the guy from OttawaMods.ca did mine... name was Mark, nice guy, and his place wasn't a far bus ride from mine...10 minutes maybe... straight down my street

The modded PS2 is so nice... I now have over 80 burnt games sitting on top of my official games.

now, that said, does the modded PS2 allow you to load games from the HD? that would be the ideal situation, not only to be able to load games from the HD, but so I could play my own Guitar Hero 2 songs...

A modded PS2 will not allow you to run games from the PS2 HDD. The HD Loader installs specific software for the drive to read the games.

In my case, I have a slimline. Sold my fat PS2 and the hard drive long ago when I was still living in the Sault.

well with a mod chip plus a hdd you can tranfer both retail and isos to the hdd.either way you always boot up hdloader first.

HD Loader is common to find on eBay. Or, the link from the HD Loader official site will redirect you here to buy it:

Just for a comparison, I paid $80 to have my PS2 modded with a standard chip. No swapping, no HDD, and it takes me about 4-10 minutes to copy a PS2 game using Alcohol 120%
