No. They should not be allowed to tell the parents. It is more important the the mother gets adequate medical care than that the parents know. If the teen is living at home it will become obvious after a while anyway.
If they are forced to tell the parents, I think there would be a lot more of pregnant teens out there not getting the medical attention needed for their pregnancies. First priorities should be the health of the baby and the mother.

The majority of teens who get pregnant have parents that don't care anyway.

in response to the OP - no. The pregnant teen should have the right of the medical information to be kept confidential.
However, just how good is the relationship between the teen and her parents if she is keeping this from them. I'm mean, if the relationship is somewhat normal the parents will eventually find out.

As a former TEEN mom...(I moved out before the pregnancy occurred anyways) I especially see the importance of an individual's right to confidential care. I work as an RN, and as long as a child/teen has the capacity to understand medical options and consequences, they are capable of making their own choices. A patient has the right to feel they can approach their health care provider without judgement or breach of confidentiality....
(mind you, there are circumstances where certain things MUST be reported.. ie abuse, self harm.. etc.. )
There's no problem too great that can't be lessened by a couple swings..
but is a 13 year old really responsible enough to maintain proper medical care while pregnant?

well what if that scared 13 year old tries to hide it for as long as she can and the baby and mother go that long with out prenatal care? Wouldn't it be better if the doctor had the ability to let the parents or a guardian know that the child was pregnant so that they could get the treatment that they need? Make sure that they child is following proper nutrition and edcuate the child on risky behaviors while pregnant?
