No, Canada! Team USA wins world junior title in OT

"Team USA ended Canada's five-game title streak Tuesday night in dramatic fashion, recording a 6-5 overtime victory over the favored Canadians in the gold medal game of the world junior championships at Saskatoon, Canada.

...Another U.S. hockey title is worth mentioning: The U.S. under-17 national team beat Canada-Ontario, 2-1, on Monday at Timmons, Canada, to win the world under-17 hockey challenge. The scoring leader was Rocco Grimaldi of Rossmoor, who had 14 points and a tournament-leading 10 assists."

US played awesome. The gf is an american and I haven't heard the end of it since the game was over.

Hope people don't use a GPS to get to Timmons, Canada. They'd wind up in Arizona and be totally screwed yo!

Call it the Gretzky effect....it's all good.
You must love that your favourite player is part responsible.
In a rare moment, Canada played selfish and the Americans more like a team.
There is one thing about streaks ...they end.
They definitely stole a page out of our book, Dean Blaze confirmed it.
The Americans played Canadian hockey to win, that is saying something.
    Should be good next year.

    .

Jack, I bet you have Canadian underwear and matching jammies too. Let it go. The US played great hockey to win.

    Those are Blazes words, so....
And, they have structured their under program to resemble ours.
Did you watch any of it?

What is that? Something to do with gambling?

Gretzky had nothing to do with this. If he did, then much more of Team USA's roster would have come from 'non-traditional markets'. But as it is, three players came from Michigan, five came from Minnesota, three from Massachusetts, and five from the NY/NJ region. Those are traditional hockey hotbeds in the U.S., and were so way before the Grate One stepped foot in La La Land. Two players are from Missouri ...are they playing because of Gretzky, or the fact Missouri has had an NHL team for almost five decades?

One player was from Oregon, one from Nevada, and one from Oklahoma. You want to say those three were inspired by Wayne to play hockey? Sure, go ahead.

Not much of an "Effect", however. And the best players on Team USA were from the traditional markets: Campbell(G), Mich ...Lee(G) ...Minn ....Carlson (OT winner) NJ ...Danny Kristo, Minn ...Jordan Schroeder, Minn.

So, as is usual lately, Wayne kinda' fails.

Sure did. And out of Russia's, and Sweden's. It's what good teams do when they want to get better.

Who would Team Canada emulate in baseball? That's right, The USA, Japan, and Cuba.

We didn't play "Canadian hockey", we played a style of hockey that fit best with this lineup; and that style was a conglomeration of different styles, thus different countries.

You lost, Jack. Deal with it.

Ha, ha, ha...I have lost nothing.
What we gained is respect and what you just said confirms it.
It took you long enough…it’s part of the reason I would laugh at USA Hockey.
Now you may get a decent bang for your buck, if you know what I mean?
Like I said from the beginning, Canada is the Benchmark, and now you agree.
That sure is a different tune then you use to sing.

The bulk of players on the American team did not come from traditional States.
It was the most eclectic group they have ever had, so...
And, it is the Gretzky effect...like it or not!
What we also gained, if it's a lasting effect, is a worthy opponent that we desperately needed in this tournament.
All streaks have to end...we fought hard and lost.
History will teach you that, the ones with the greatest ability will make everyone around them better.
Ha, Ha Ha…. you are welcome!
I'm OK with it.... now it's your turn.

    LOL!

Did anyone listen to the crazy old goat Don Cherry tonight?

He is simply beside himself because the US won two championships in Canada this past week! LOL

It's funny watching a "hockey nation" try to come to grips with the fact they are no longer the number one nation.

    Keep it up!!

    11 play in the NCAA
    2 play for the USNTDP
1 plays in the AHL (saying that John Carlson was developed by the London Knights is laughable—he was drafted from the USHL)
8 play in the CHL, 3 of which play for US-based CHL teams

    We win

Ha, Ha the real hockey starts when the NHL regular season ends.
We have more Gold Medals then the USA has medals.
    Defending Champs...perhaps.
It was great win, but that is it.

    Hard to disagree.
The diffrence is, I try and stick to the facts.
He has to fabricate or snipe stats to make it look different than it is.
My, your, our country IS better, at playing and developing hockey and hockey players.
    Those are the facts!

I hated Cherry's rant. USA hockey is obviously doing something right. Look at all of the young American players in the league. Sure a lot of Americans are playing on Canadian juniour teams, but they have to be doing something right if Canadian Juniour clubs are picking up these American players in the first place.

To the contrary, they picked the Canadian team or teams by being available for the OHL draft.
They can opt out and stay with USA hockey to remain eligible and go the college route.
Yeah, they are doing something right and it's about time!
That being said, nothing has been done to a degree where the big picture changed on hockeys supremacy.
That's really what this is about.

    Just so you know....
In the summer of 2002 the IIHF officially recognized the 3rd March 1875 game at the Victoria Skating Rink as the earliest eyewitness account of a specific game of hockey.
The circumstances that surround that event, fulfil the IIHFs criteria for what can be recognized as the site of the first game of hockey.

The fact that these players are still selected by Canadian juniour clubs still says a lot. The teams could just pass by these Americans, but chose not to for a reason. The players obviously realize Canada has a great development system and are happy to take advantage of it, but as I said before, they are obviously doing a lot of good things down south too.

Look a Minnesota, this is one of the best hockey areas in the world. They are nuts about their hockey there. I don't think the fact that Canada has a great development program should discredit the system USA has in place.
