Home Theatre Projectors?

Anyone have an opinion on projectors in home instead of an actual tv? I would be interested to know everyones take on their performance versus flat screen tvs etc. I have a big room will minimal light and was interested in seeing if a home theatre projector with screen is a viable option. Thanks in advance.

Pretty amazing till someone gets up and walks in front of the projector

Picture quality isn't great, but can be improved with an actual screen or with specialized wall paint. I watched a superbowl on one of those once - was awsome to have the life-sized game in my family room.

Rear projection?? If you have the room, eleiminates the walk in front problem.

Actual screen?? New projectors are so bright flat screens are often used.

High contrast machines work better. Lumens not so much an issue in a darkened room.

Bulbs have run between 400 and 550.

DON'T buy aftermarket. You may get stung. One I had ws short-lived, and the other wouldn't work at all.

Figure 25 cents an hour, at best. for bulb life. You'll also notice fading after about half the life, though tests have shown the rate of fade is actually pretty steady, up to the average 2000 hours life.

I use a multi-media projector for all of my TV viewing. I think it is great! A decent machine gives you a very acceptable picture. I have an Epson c70 that has 3000 to 4000 hours of life to a bulb. The bulb cost $240.00. When you purchase a projector order a spare bulb immediately so you won't be without at a crucial time. I have not had to replace my bulb yet, and have well over 3000 hours on it. Epson has a very good service policy as well.

I would hold off if you can for a bit, LED projectors are coming later this year. They will run cooler, and well you won't need to replace those expensive bulbs... and the main reason will be to make them RoHS complaint. http://revision3.com/hdnation/settopbox#rev3Player

projectors are good as long as you get a nice unit with a high Lumen count

2200 lumens with a 3000 hour life, 6000 on econo mode now available for about $800.

i have one from future hop justa cheap on was liek 129, but works great....for my needs.....best is 10 feet, but i have it abut 12 feet from wall and on the cieling..i got liek 80something inch diagonal
