Your right Baileydog, the Sault will never be a big profit casino, charity or commercial. It is just too bad that as the home of the OLG, it doesn't invest more in it's community to showcase what is here. No doubt a properly run convention centre hotel could succeed in the Sault especially if part of the casino and it might bring profits slighly up but not enough to raise eyebrows on Foster Drive. We're stuck with the tent!!!

There's the other problem - only we think of the Sault as the home to the OLG - most executives now refer to Toronto as the head office - and why not? for some reason the top executives migrated back to Toronto some years ago - The Sault is nothing more than a plant for the OLG now - the top jobs are all back in Toronto - how did this happen?

Yeah - I went to one of their Christmas parties right after the out-migration. The VP gave a nice speech then made the mistake of taking questions. The only question was 'Why did you move head office back to Toronto?' The answer blew me away 'Well, that's not actually 'head' office, it's 'corporate' office. There's a big difference' Uh huh.....

The thought of the cost savings alone in having a hotel and meeting facility for the OLG to use for it's exec's in addittion to any other government meetings relating to the north. In reality the OLG exec's should be put in the same situation that the workers were put in, your job is moving to the Sault it will be there for you if you want it.....period!!!

A better and truer answer would be......because the big corporate people have more to do in Toronto than in the Sault. Further their wives said they would go back without them. The same with the Doctors. Why practise in a small city when everything is at your disposale in a big city.

And full circle we are back to getting something built on the Gateway site that could be used by locals and attract people from out of town.

On a lighter note, I celebrated Canada's gold metal hockey win in the USA at Kewadin watching another sold out concert, (Gary Allan rocked) had a few drinks there and spent some cash in their casino before making my way home. Funny how events bring people in to spend money, never been there except for concert nights and the place was packed again.

I partly blame the smoking bylaw.

It's only a matter of time before Michigan goes non-smoking state wide. It's already happened in New York and many other states, so only a matter of time for Michigan.

Kewadin will more than likely not be effected due to being on reserve, much the same as bingo in Garden River being in a smoking atmosphere here. Reservation fall under federal laws not the province or states. Maybe they should turn Gateway into a parking lot with an underwater tunnel to Whitefish Island where there could be a Native Casino with smoking allowed there too. It would have to be a tower though, not much space on the front of the island without destroying wetlands further back
