    Default How to clean vaseline?

My darling boy decided to smear a 13 foot hallway wall with vaseline yesterday while I was out. I don't mind having to repaint afterward if necessary, but it's pretty hard to paint over grease. Any ideas on how to get it off? Is there a product that would work?

When you paint use TSP to wash the wall.

Hmmm....I have PolyClens. I use it to treat grease stains in clothing, but it's meant to clean paintbrushes. I suppose that would work too...

What's TSP and where do I get it?

Any place they sell paint. I always use it on the walls where they are touched before I paint.

make sure you wear gloves with tsp though it's very corrosive.

If you have dawn dish soap use that to wash the walls. it will cut through the Vaseline and clean it off the walls.
First just take a damp washcloth or rag and squirt some dawn on it and use it like that first, then take a bucket of warm water with a little dawn in it and wash off the the wall. use dawn without diluting it first. Then wash it off. It will clean it right off. My niece did that in my sisters babys nursery on the wall and rug. She used dawn and it worked like a charm. Of course take off as much as you can before starting to wash.

If you're going to paint over it anyway, just clean it as well as you can, then use a primer called BIN. It'll paint and seal over pretty much anything.

Dawn dish soap works good for grease.
I have also heard the WD40 is used for grease removal.

Yup, TSP. Buy the liquid (pre-mixed), not the crystals. Canadian Tire has it in the paint department, may be available in some grocery store cleaning aisles. That stuff will take 20 year old, hardened grease splotches off kitchen walls. Don't ask me how I know. LOL

Dawn or sunlight dish soap. No need for heavy duty chemicals!
