This city is not celebrating EARTH HOUR, but the Delta and Sears are....anybody else?

I read online the Delta Hotel is doing something and SEARS has a big display with a countdown clock and activities for kids etc tommorrow, but what is everyone else doing? I read the article in the SS that they (city hall) have too much on the go and missed it....but thousands of cities didn't. WOW, we've got wind, hydro, co-gen, bio mass, soon solar CLEAN POWER and we can't move our butts to take initiative at a municipal level to promote what we do as a city, in our area to save the world, WOW, Canadians are a quiet bunch and don't like to brag, but we missed the boat (OASIS of the SEA Size) on this one. If you don't get the reference to the boat google it!

Shutting off the lights for an hour won't save the world. The world is fine, and will outlive us all in the end. Actually, if all those Greenie cities (like Toronto) would just shut off all those lights in the office towers every night, we'd save a lot more electricity than shutting off the lights for an hour every year.

I have to agree with AM on this. Earth Hour is mostly symbolic, however if our city is going to hold itself out as the 'green capital of Canada' we'd better get on the Earth Hour bandwagon. Can't just pay lip service if you really want to shine.

We have to teach our young to pay more respect to the environment, and earth hour does that, like casa said, it's symbolic. Our parents lived one way, we have to change, they didn't know better, we do know, and we are trying to change that, you're right, toronto could learn to save, and this event does just that, starts to make people think, just like you did, to question and find that what is being done is not right, and ask for change. baby steps...

I wouldn't worry about the city not doing the whole earth hour thing. Like was pointed out, this is symbolic. If the city is doing things year round I'd focus more on that. A guy who goes to church every sunday then goes home to bang his married neighbor is not good. A guy who watches football then spends his week helping disabled children learn calculus is a good guy. Maybe the city is the nice football watching hero.

I work at the Delta Hotel and we are shutting off mostly everything we can for an hour. When we were in a meeting the other day it was a very interesting topic. I cannot remember the amount it will save for just one hour, but it was a lot. All of our guest that are going to be there have all been notified and it has been posted. Everybody was all for it. Who doesn't like sitting in a relaxing candle lit environment?
