    Default wet cleaning???

I need to get my dress cleaned. With some research i have been doing it said that dry cleaning won't remove the dirt as well as wet cleaning... Has anyone ever had any experience wet cleaning a dress? I bought the dress as a sample dress and I am having it altered. I need to get it cleaned before because it has been tried on in the store and is a little dingy. Most places have quoted me close to 200 to have it drycleaned Between alterations and getting it cleaned it is going to cost me more then what i paid for the dress.

I had a very expensive dress and all I did was turn it inside out and washed it on gentle with ivory snow and hung it to dry...no problems and also it was loaded with beadwork(turning it inside out kept the beads from catching and tearing)...

Personally I can't think of another method of "wet" cleaning, can you? Unless you are contemplating washing by hand. If this is so then you are restricted. As for dry cleaning not getting out everyday dirt, why else would one send anything out to be cleaned? When I worked for Gulf Canada, our uniforms had to be dry cleaned and they sported anything from grub and grim to oil and gas ground into them. They came back pristine. The choice is yours. You can attempt to clean it at home and assume liability or hand it over to an "insured" dry cleaner and lay the onus on them, CLEAN IT, CLEAN IT RIGHT, OR DIE! No muss, no fuss, and you can sleep.

Anapeg, most things that go to the drycleaner are actually washed in a wet machine, as far as an insured drycleaner...thats an extra fee. Also, I dont know if you were a 1970's satin shirt person[I'm betting yes], but how many times did you throw that in the washer and not on gentle? Satin is a very strong fabric, ever been to a wedding and see what the dress goes through over the course of the evening.

I do agree though; when in doubt call in the proffesionals.

I absolutely loved my satin shirts with the puffy sleeves, you have me pegged. I do believe the "dry clean only" tag is to protect the manufacturer from silly mistakes on the part of the owner.
