    Default The Bear Trail

    http://sootoday.com/content/news/ful...ryNumber=46354

What's the MNR going to tell us when the bears start showing up at Strathclair in the middle of a soccer game? Have our kids brush their teeth better? Throw them a jersey to wear?

This bear over-population is getting tiresome. So's the line about cleaning your barbecue. We could get rid of all the barbecues in town, and it still wouldn't make the bears go away.

I dont understand why they are putting all the new, expensive hub trails on the bear route...are they trying to make people want to get out and walk or are they trying to get more people to stay in were they are safe from bears?

Bears are harmless unless they feel threatened. Also, i've seen some soccer games at Straithclair, there is no way a bear would come close to them. Hundreds of screaming and yelling kids.

I grew up in the bush, don't tell me that wild animals are harmless.

That's all good and fine, but the more they live in town, year after year, they lose their fear of people. It happens out in the country, too. Why do you think parks all over N. America will put up signs to not feed wildlife, including bears?

but then there's the kids that sneak off and don't stay with the group. i guess it's okay if those ones get eaten.

There has always been bears in that area, even when there was a spring bear hunt. They were living there long before the city felt the need to put in the hub trail. Almost all black bear attacks are from bears that have never been around humans before. There is also a pack of wolves right near there, and a pack of coyotes not to far from that. The coyotes have been around for at least the past three years.

thats right, bears have been here long before us.

how much do you actually know about bears, and how much is based on unconfirmed 'facts' that really arent true?

im so tired of people spouting off about how dangerous they are without really understanding their behaviour or actually knowing what is what. i grew up in the country too with tons of wild animals about. get some common sense. bears are way more afraid of us anyway, even the 'tame' city bears....

The only time I don't trust a bear is if they have cubs.

Simple solution. If you walk in the bush, always take a buddy who can't run as fast as you!!!!
