Caruso called the church’s conduct hypocritical because it boasts of pastoral outreach to victims yet treated him “like sh--.” “Their only concern is to piss you off and get you going and do everything they possibly can to deter you from suing them.”

The victim's statement says it all. The Roman Catholic Church is no better than a slimy insurance company when it comes to avoiding liability and restitution. No tactic to this end is off limits.

In an interesting side note to a child sex abuse case, pastor Craig Johnson from Taylor County, WV, has been indicted on charges of failure to report child sex abuse. Charges state that the alleged abuser told the pastor about his actions and the pastor did not report him to the authorities

Church youth director and volunteer Bradley Boda has been charged on suspicion of two counts of sexual assault on a child, two counts of unlawful sexual contact, two counts of sexual exploitation of children, one count of attempted sexual exploitation of a child, three counts of enticement of a child, and two counts of indecent exposure

Former youth pastor John Picard was sentenced to 40 years in prison for sexual battery, with no possibility of parole. According to the linked article, Picard was convicted on all 42 counts of sexual battery at the end of a six-day trial.

Southern California pastor Jessica Banks was sentenced to life in state prison last Friday for abusing her five adopted daughters, who were beaten daily, fed spoiled food and hidden in a garage.

Church volunteer Angelo Serrano was arrested for suspected sexual abuse against a 10-year-old boy.

Pastor Jose Campoverde has been arrested on suspicion of molesting four girls in his church in Anaheim, CA. According to the linked article, Campoverde is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail on suspicion of lewd conduct with a minor, sexual battery, child annoyance and false imprisonment.

Pastor Jonathan Locust Sr. is being sued by three women who allege he used his position of authority to commit fraud, and sexual, emotional, and spiritual abuse against them for two years. The linked article gives a good snapshot of how an abusive pastor may operate.

RWGR, those articles of the charges are from Sep 2009. Were the guilty, abusive criminals convicted and sentenced? I sure hope so -- I mean, who wouldn't want to see justice served for the victims?

    Rock on, brother.

    It's all about the coverups.

    http://www.examiner.ie/breakingnews/...an-450441.html

"The Catholic Church faced further allegations of mishandling child sex abuse in Ireland today after claims that a girl abused by a priest was sworn to secrecy in an out-of-court settlement as recently as 2000."

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/...n6314082.shtml

"Government-ordered inquiries in Ireland have documented cases of abuse and cover-ups between the 1930s and 1990s that involved more than 15,000 children.

"Children were sworn to secrecy, having made allegations against a priest, and subsequently that priest was allowed to carry on being a priest," said Madden. "

As he investigated the abuse accusations against Father Lawrence C. Murphy, a Milwaukee priest who died in 1998, Anderson realized that he'd discovered a paper trail that, in his words, "directly implicates Cardinal Ratzinger and the Vatican" in the cover-up of "serial predators" within the church. The revelation, he adds, is "a tipping point" in the fight to get the church to open up about its sordid past.
