I went out today and purhased one of these drives from FutureShop. Paid 71.99 ( open box deal. 79.99 regularily ) and brought it home. Since I have a LOT of data to back up using multiple thumb drives is just not an option anymore. I was quite pleased when I plugged the drive into the power outlet and my laptop and I found that it did not require any special drivers or software. Comes pre-formatted as a FAT32 filetype holding 462GB of formatted space.
One thing I'm curious about however is the data transfer speed. This is my first external HDD. Generally II stick with 16GB and 32GB thumb drives, and the transfer speed is a little on the slow side on those. Now, as per one of these ... it seems to be transfering rather quickly compared to the thumb drives.
Is this normal?
75GB transfered in just over an hour? ... is so, I bought a cheapie. I would LOVE to get my hands on a high end drive.
Here are the stats BTW.
Model Number ST305004EXA101-RK
Interface USB 2.0

Width 125.91mm (4.96 in)
Length 207.08mm (8.15 in)

I think I'll submit a review on the device one of these days. There seems to be very little information on the drives out there.
