Default Ogidaki Mountain - Save the Historic FireTower Ranger Camp

For years, there's been a rare, well-preserved and historic Fire Ranger camp secluded at the base of Ogidaki Mountain. Probably one of the last ones in the entire area and quite possibly Northern Ontario. It's been maintained by volunteers and hikers who would use it as a temporary stay as they would ascend Ogidaki Mountain. In Spring of 2010, a local logging company has taken the narrow trails and opened them into full roads allowing for the logging trucks to get into the area. There is now a full road right to the door of the historic Forest Ranger camp and unfortunately it didn't take long for the vandals to show up and blow out the windows and ransack the interior. The MNR has been contacted and an inquiry put in to see if they have intentions of preserving this rare building and heritage site. Hopefully, action will take place and some efforts put forward to keep this historic gem in place! If you support this initiative, please contact the Sault District Manager of the MNR. To view some photos of the building and Ogidaki Mountiain, click on the link.

what a shame that that nice trail is now a logging road. why would someone so far out in the bush do that kind of damage!!!

The Ogidake Mountains are all the hills (rocky one's) made up of the Pre Cambrian Shield all around this area.
