ps3 bluray drive.

My bluray drive died on my ps3. I was wondering if anyone knew someone who would replace the drive without having to send it to sony.

Drive are more than likely locked to the system in the same was as an xbox. Will be hard to replace without knowing how to do it.

Anyone know where I can get it fixed? It reads games sometimes but then freezes. I tried formatting it nothing changed. It will read DVD's and CD's... been getting different error codes too. I really don't want to buy a new one.

i can only recommend sending it in to sony for repair ... specially if its the phaty with BC ...

what is a phaty-BC. I have the 250gig are there any recognizable defective blue ray drives in them?,or are they all made the same.

ours went out a couple weeks ago my fiance had the extended warrenty threw future shop sony fixed it had it back to us in less then a week sending it away is probly the best bet

Ugh. Mine doesn't have warranty. I was hoping to find someone locally to fix it. Anyone know what it costs to send it away? If it costs as much as a new one, I'm going to just do that. Does sony remove the backwards capability if you send itto them?

Im pretty sure it costs like 100 or 150 to send it away from what people told me. Sony won't remove any features on the repair.

unplug the power supply in back of machine wait then back in,then hold down the power button till u hear 3 beeps. Keep in mind it will all memory,saved games,pic,music all of it. try that out.

You can have it fixed for less then what Sony wants. Replacement eyes can be had for a reasonable price then someone like me could easily replace for a small fee.

you could try and restore and reset everything thru the recovery mode on ur ps3 in order to enter recovery mode you have to turn off the ps3 then you have to hold down the power button it will cycle on then back off when it goes back off, hold down the power again it will beep once then pause then beep 2 more times, then you let it go and u will enter recovery mode, from her you can do 6 different things i think options 2 thru 5 will work for u as 6 is for updating firmware... no you can't downgrade firmware with this and the first one is i believe to restart the ps3. If you do any of the options 2 thru 5 make sure that you back all your data and i mean all your data cause these will set everything back to default as if you got it out of the box with your current firmware. http://www.naschenweng.info/2009/06/...-bluray-issues here is a link to a little more info on this as i mentioned i did see this awhile ago when i had drive issues but i no longer use my 80GB fat for games as i have a 320GB slim model, my old one is now Jailbroken and run homebrew with emulators

No, I have not got it fixed yet. I don't think what DarkAssassin is suggesting is going to fix it as it is a hardware issue.

i do beleive the 3rd option is for drivers and some other stuff again i'm just suggesting things that might help out, try googling to see if there is something else if not and u decide to get ride of it let me know. i'd be interested in it lol i could u another media server for the bedroom.

I may give it a try. I just bought a new one yesterday. I'm thinking about trying to make it a media server... if I can figure out how.
