    Sault Transmission is my place.

Get a shift kit and high stall converter while you are there. I always have done that, and it always helps.

WOW, I do not think you really understand what a high stall converter will do lol, but if you insist ...

I second this! His prices can't be beat either.

Do you?? It helps with towing, allows the RPM of the engine to get up higher, in my case about 2000 instead of the stock 1200. The engine has a lot more pulling power at 2000 that at 1200, without a big hit in gas mileage.

Maybe you're thinking of much higher stall speeds for drag racing, obviously not appropriate in this case.

    Interesting response...
    I have a 5.3 with a 4L80 and 3:73's
At highway speeds the rpm is below 2000 up to about 70mph.
A 2000rpm stall in my case would do damage eventually from excessive heat from slippage caused by lack of pressure!
In 3rd gear I would have a chance, but I still think 2000 is too high for most applications depending on final gear rpm.
The shift kit is a must if you are already in there!

A cooler is a must. Sorry I forgot to mention that.

I'm pretty sure the additional heat is created by the action of the oil within the converter, as it "slips" somewhat more than a lower stall speed converter.

My cars have never had heating problems with this mod.

It may be that you made out OK, great!
All I'm saying is that you have to consider the rpm in final drive when choosing converters!
A cooler will always help the right application, but would only prolong the inevitable if it's slipping.

We have been looking for someone to fix the tranny in our SUV, so we booked an appointment with Dave at Quality Care Transmissions. Sounds like a good place to go.

Is Dr PRNDL still in business? I noticed he is no longer where he used to be at the top of Pim and Bruce.

Yes, Bluesky - they have moved to Second Line. Sault Transmission, is between Peoples Road and Farwell Terrace on the right side heading west.

The good doctor has actually retired.

Now wait a minute. Where do you think the slippage takes place?? And how much??
