Easy Home does. But I'm sure you knew this in your research NTP.

It's Social Insurance Number (Canada). They do not have a right to ask for this, as they do not do credit checks. You have to right down 3-4 references, but they don't always call them, (Who would right down a bad reference?). No credit cards.
If at anytime you wish to return your product, simply do so without any questions, penalty or further obligation... our program is designed to be totally flexible in helping you get exactly what you want for as long as you want. You can also get Shaw internet, next day install for a week too.All you need is a place to live, a few friends and source of income. We're here to help you get the things you want and need right now.

Easy home asks for your SIN number because if your renting things and it comes down to you not making payments and the refusall to returning the product then they will put you in collections. They do have a right to ask for things like that. They do not need a credit card but do require payment for the first month. 99% of the time they will call your references also.
call algoma business computers on trunk road, they sell business computers that go off lease. they might have something for you.
Businesses can ask you for your social insurance number but you are NOT required to give it to them, even for a credit check. Your SIN is for government (e.g., income tax, benefits such as EI) purposes only.

http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/s.../provide.shtmlNo private-sector organization is legally authorized to request customers’ SINs for purposes other than income reporting. Even in the case of a financial institution, if a customer’s account is not of a type that earns interest (e.g., if it is a credit account as opposed to a savings account), there is no legal requirement for the organization to collect the individual’s SIN, and no obligation for the individual to supply it.
Even so, there is no law prohibiting an organization from asking for a customer’s SIN, or a customer from supplying the SIN, for purposes other than income reporting.
More information: http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sc/sin/index.shtmlWhen don’t I have to provide my SIN?
Some private-sector organizations may ask for your SIN. This practice is strongly discouraged, but it is not illegal.
Here are examples of when you don’t have to give your Social Insurance Number or show your card:
*proving your identity (except for specific government programs)
*completing a job application before you get the job
*completing an application to rent a property
*negotiating a lease with a landlord
*completing credit card application
*cashing a cheque
*applying for a video club membership
*completing some banking transactions (mortgage, line of credit, loan)
*completing a medical questionnaire
*renting a car
*subscribing to long-distance or cellular telephone services
*writing a will
*applying to a university or college.
Back on topic, you may be able to find a netbook for less than a rental. I think a better option would be borrowing one from a friend if possible.
Also to add for the SIN thing, our real estate agent told us that we should never give our sin as proof of id, even for home buying purposes. Identity theft is far too eays if they have that number.
