Default What's wrong with these clowns?

In America, now officially a police state, you will be tasered in your own home if you lip off to the police.
Senior citizen Peter McFarland of Marin County, California, discovered this after he fell down the stairs outside his home last year. On June 29, 2009, McFarland tumbled down the stairs and after his wife called paramedics the cops showed up. They entered McFarland’s home and tasered him because they claimed he was suicidal.
“We want to take you to the hospital for an evaluation, you said if you had a gun, you’d shoot yourself in the head,” a deputy can be heard saying on a video of the incident captured on a taser mounted camera. McFarland said the comment was hyperbole made because he was in pain.
“Stand up, put your hands behind your back or you’re going to be tased,” the deputy commanded. McFarland refused, told the police in no uncertain terms to get out of his house, so the cop tased him not once, but three times, as his wife looked on in horror and pleaded with the cops to stop because her husband has a heart condition.
McFarland’s lawyer, John Scott, said the cops did not have a search warrant or any reason to enter the McFarland residence. Scott told KGO-TV in San Francisco his client was arrested, jailed and charged with resisting arrest. A judge later dismissed the charge. McFarland has filed suit against the Marin County Sheriff’s Department.

The police were uninvited and told by the owner (who had a heart condition) to leave his house and they tasered him not once or twice but THREE times!

Aside from the hyperbole in the article, what do think about what happened to Mr. McFarland?

I think the cops were out of line.

Old man should have place his hands behind his back instead of lipping off.

People should know not to lip off or they will get tazed.

    Simple.

This is not a funny subject,in fact it is down right scary. We are seeing more and more inexcusable trampling of our civil rights by so called people that are sworn to protect and serve not just in the States but here in Canada too.

The officers said "stand up, put your hands behind your back or you will get tased". He then told the officers in no uncertain terms to get out of his house. How is that standing up for yourself??? That is being foolish. You can't lip off to an officer that said he'd tase you if you didn't comply. You can fight the charge or convictions another day, or a peaceful manner.

Anyone have proof that the officers didn't know this guy was a nut bar and ready to shoot them?

Standing up for your rights is lipping off....riiight!
Pretty archaic...like that was the only remedy.
The absents of a gun would be your first clue about your suspicions.
A guy in a wheel chair with a heart condition does sound pretty threatening......
It sounds like a Monty Python skit!

Oh...they dropped the charges, so that should be an indicator!

    That's irrelevant.

The police weren't supposed to be in his house in the first place -- they were not invited, nor did they have a warrant, and Mr. McFarland asked them to leave his private property. THEN the police taze him!

He's rightfully filed a lawsuit against the Marin County Sheriff’s Department.

Number one, I didn't standing up for your rights is lipping off. One can stand up for their rights without lipping off. Getting angry and shouting, name calling or what ever is pretty archaic if you ask me.

He wasn't in the wheel chair at the time

His wife called 911. Unless where they live, you can just call the paramedics. There is a lot more to this story than what is printed. There always is

One can stand up for this rights with be respectful too.

Ha, Ha...you can't expect someone to do something you wouldn't do.
From what I have seen on here, you don't take direction well and you read into things with assumptions.
Reverse the roll and I'm guessing you do the same thing.
I'll give you that there is always more to the story, but why side with the police.
I think your stance is humorous considering your past.

I agree with you. The first thing I learned about dealing with law enforcement was to follow directions or you could wind up dead. Feel free to lip off after they have you secured in cuffs- At least they know when they have you cuffed that they're not going to get shot.

I can see why guns are so popular in the USA.
    ...with that mentality you'll need'em.
Isn't that whole right to bear arm/NRA thing all about defending yourself in this kind of situation?
A 64-year-old guy, that uses a wheel chair, with a heart condition that had just fallen down the stairs, needed to be tasered?
Why did the paramedics feel there was no issue?
He was far for being mentally incapable to make rational decision.
That cop was lunatic and deserves to lose his job.
…only after Mr. McFarland gets to return the favour.

Oh, you're absolutely right, Jack. As a matter of fact, what am I thinking? Being safe when an officer instructs me to do something. He should just check himself and let me give it to him.

Sometimes I wonder how it is that you lost your ticket to the clue train.
