720p and 1080

I just bought a 42 inch LG LCD for my bedroom.
I was told that the 1080p is better than the 720p so I bought the 1080p.
So I get home and I'm hooking up my shaw pvr and noticed it said the pvr was program was set for 720p. I called shaw and asked him how to change it to the 1080p. The tec. said they don't go up that high. Long story short he said there isn't any company that offers 1080p. Is this true? And if so why do sales people try and sell you something you can't use?

There are two reasons. First, your TV will be ready if and when Shaw goes to 1080p. The second reason is that the 1080p probably cost you more. A salesperson's objective is to make you spend more money right?

1080P is not coming to TV anytime soon. It's taken them years to just get a few 720P channels, 1080P takes up WAY more bandwidth, the satellite and wired data lines that exist today couldn't stream that much info to the amount of customers that would make it worthwhile.

1080P is really only for direct wired content. Blu-Ray Disc and PS3/XBox 360 over HDMI cables.
