    Default Medical Benefits.

Ive been off work for over a month now. I had surgery on my knee and have been put on medical leave. I swear to you it's nothing but a fight to get these benefits. I think i would have had an easier time getting laid off and going on full out unemployment.. Any one else have these lovely problems?

Are you trying to get benefits through EI or through short term disability at work? I recently applied and received EI sickness benefits and had no issues whatsoever in receiving them.

Never had a problem with sick leave benefits through EI. Received my first check 2 weeks after I applied. Just make sure you submit your ROE from your employer indicating you are on a medical leave.

Keep fighting. The people who run those programs must get paid bonuses for everybody they screw over.

DOCUMENT everything. Date and time and who you are talking to for every call, which you should make everyday. If they tell you a date that something will happen, write it down and go after the person who told you. Never give an uncopied piece of paper away. It's their job to lose it!!!

Are you trying to collect through work benefits.

When Hubby was off last year he had to wait almost 8 weeks before he finally got his first cheque, thankfully he got one lump sum all at once and then regular cheques after that. Takes a bit (paperwork & frustration & lots of doctors signtures) to get the ball rolling, but they have to make sure everything is on the up & up before printing off that cheque.

We got the impression from talking to the insurance company that far too many people were taking advantage of the benefits that it screws things royally for those that really do have something wrong and need the benefits.

And I agree....copy EVERYTHING before you send anything in! Write the date on your copies of when you sent it in too, helps keep track of what you sent, when.

If your dealing with Benefits through your employment you'll likely be dealing with an insurance company. If so you will have a broker/agent that is supposed to service your company. Contact the agents office and ask them to step in on your behalf.
They should be able to assist you with the company.

If your dealing with Sick benefits through the EI program, well thats a different animal all together.

I have applied for these benefits through EI. The lady on the phone told me today that everything on my behalf was correct and handed in. Im basically waiting for them to get off their asses and file it when they feel they are ready.

There is an initial two week waiting period for the benefits. My employer took their sweet time getting my ROE to EI but I had my first check within four weeks and they retro pay you, you then get a check every two weeks. Don't forget to file your EI reports even while you're waiting for the initial payment. They have to be filed every two weeks.
