    Default Ever wonder why?

Seems in today's day and age, it has become more socially acceptable to make suttle insults and jabs at people, We don't seem to be interested in calling people out on their rudeness, and just accept it. We live in a world of "technicalities". where we make allowances for subtle things, and punish and sanction those that choose to be more blunt in their retorts. Why do we disallow hurtful expressions as a society? I think it's because they can be hurtful, and we just don't think that's nice. So, what is more hurtful? A subtle insult like "your choice in lifestyle is disgusting" or "you have small tits" Both are equally hurtful. Just because you mask one as an opinion, and not the other does not make one potentially more or less hurtful. So, If we mask something as an opinion, does that make it okay? Is it okay to say "In my opinion I think you are a fat smelly hooker that has small tits and should probably consider suicide as a viable option to life's problems, But that's just my opinion"
    What do you think?
P.S. I am not just talking about this board or certain circumstances from said board, I am using some examples from this board though, My thoughts pertain to the real world as well.

I could never figure out why people had to write JMO after thier post - if there isn't anything to back it up or facts to prove the post then it is just exactly that - their own opinion.....I think they just need to justify what they posted

People should not have to justify their opinions. If they believe in something, it's theirs to believe in.

Chris, ... I know where you are coming from. Anyone who has followed some threads on this site (especially some of the more recently locked threads) should agree.

People fall into two categories, ... tolerant and bigots, .... no gray area. But then, ... I am sure there are other opinions.

Just mention your ethnicity and they come out of the woodwork....

I once questioned a moderator why they did not do anything about racist comments on the board....and I got banned....

I find there are a few people on this forum that are very discontent with their lives and it comes out in their nasty post, I feel more sorry for these people then anger.

Especially the ones that come on here only to start arguments because they're either bored, or get some sort of enjoyment out of it. Sad really...

Sometimes I wonder if we've hit a generation that parents have just tired (or not been aware) to teach manners or respect. We are inundated with information and much of it is graphic to the point of dulling our senses. There just seems to be the human nature that we aren't keeping up with. People seem to just be losing interest in taking that extra effort to be polite or think about others. Courtesy is a seemingly lost practice.
I don't apologize for being opinionated and I certainly have no tolerance for bullies, which is usually the problem with people hurting others feelings. To be honest, I loved being mean to bullies in school. I've always cheered for the underdog.
I don't believe we need to walk on egg shells but we certainly should be more tolerant and compassionate to our fellow human beings.

Maybe we just need to stop, listen and think before we speak. You can't delete a feeling.

I find it interesting that you would consider, "your choice in lifestyle is disgusting", a "subtle" insult.
